The rumours were true, right down to the name.
The National Hockey League and Fanatics today officially announced “Hometown Remix,” a league-wide special edition uniform and retail apparel program covering all 32 teams for the upcoming 2026-27 season. It’s the first league-wide special edition uniform program designed and developed by Fanatics since the company took over as the league’s authentic on-ice uniform outfitter in 2024.
According to the league’s announcement, the collection “will be anchored by special edition uniforms that uniquely and authentically celebrates the fans, city, and local culture of each team.”
We first talked about this program back in January when a Reddit user claiming to work for a hockey retailer shared inventory listings for an NHL “HTR” jersey program; a trademark filing for the phrase “Hometown Remix” gave meaning to those letters. This all followed Edmonton Oilers insider Tom Gazzola teasing that a new league-wide theme was “cooking” for 2026-27.
Today’s announcement confirms what could be the league’s worst-kept secret, though the league has yet to say anything about individual team designs, including the original leaked list of each club’s reported Hometown Remix jersey colour, which included teasers such as Panthers in pink, Leafs in beige, and Ducks in green. We’ll find out how accurate those were soon enough, as the league says more information on the program is coming “shortly after the season begins.”
The league’s focus on celebrating each team’s fans, city, and local culture makes Hometown Remix the NHL’s closest equivalent yet to MLB’s City Connect program and the NBA’s City Edition series. It’s a first for the NHL, whose previous league-wide efforts, the 2020-21 and 2022-23 Reverse Retro sets produced during their time with adidas, looked backward at each team’s own uniform history rather than at their individual cities.
While the league isn’t sharing dates yet, the Toronto Maple Leafs may have already given us something to circle on the calendar. The club recently announced a nine-game series of “Remix Nights” in 2026-27, tagged with the phrase “go back in time with a twist.” Their first “Remix Night” game will be held on November 7 against Montreal.
If the Maple Leafs’ Remix Nights are indeed tied to the Hometown Remix jerseys, as certainly seems likely, then we’ll definitely be seeing these uniforms by the first week in November, which falls in line with the league’s promise of more information “shortly after the season begins.” This would also line up with the Reverse Retro programs; both editions of those were also unveiled league-wide in the fall (v1 in mid-November 2020, v2 in late-October 2022).
In the meantime, you can go back and look at that list of Hometown Remix jersey colours, and start wondering what’s to come.
