Standing on the grid at historic Bowman Gray Stadium, fighting through tears alongside her 11-year-old son Brexton, Kyle Busch‘s widow, Samantha Busch, delivered an emotional tribute to a packed crowd at “The Madhouse.”
The inaugural Kyle Busch Invitational brought together 51 Legends Cars and 18 Bandolero drivers for a night of high-stakes grassroots short-track racing, celebrating the life, legacy, and enduring impact of NASCAR’s all-time winningest driver, who passed away in May.
Thanks for the submission!
Before the green flag flew, Samantha shared how deeply passionate Kyle was about bringing grassroots Legends racing to Bowman Gray Stadium. She said:
“First, I simply want to say thank you to each and every one of you here tonight. These past few months have been the hardest of our lives and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully explain the love and support from all of you and what it has meant to myself, Brexton, Lennix, and our entire family… He loved this place. Its history and the energy here, but more than anything, Kyle loved grassroots racing.”
Samantha spoke candidly about how becoming a father reshaped two-time NASCAR champion Kyle Busch’s purpose, both at home with Brexton and Lennix and through their charitable work enabling families to undergo IVF treatments. She continued:
“Racing was such a special bond between Kyle and Brexton. Kyle loved being your dad more than anything and he loved getting to share this sport with him. Watching Brexton continue chasing his dreams without his dad beside him is absolutely heartbreaking.”
Samantha Busch’s speech at Bowman Gray Stadium was a powerful testament to love, resilience, and the unifying strength of the racing community. She ended her speech by saying:
“Racing will never be the same without him. Our lives will never be the same without him. But I know Kyle’s love for this sport, his impact on it, and the legacy he left behind will continue to do so through all of us. So tonight, let’s do exactly what Kyle would have wanted. We race on.”
Despite the heavy emotions, Brexton put on a stellar performance on the track his father cherished, winning his heat race and scoring a hard-fought 6th-place finish in the 51-car Legends feature event.
Moreover, all proceeds from the event went directly to support The Samantha and Kyle Busch Bundle of Joy Fund, an organization dedicated to assisting couples battling infertility.
Kurt Busch shares his final words to brother Kyle Busch at the hospital: “It wasn’t fair”

In his first network television sit-down since the tragic passing of two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch in May, Kurt Busch delivered a raw, emotional interview on NBC’s TODAY show with Craig Melvin.
Speaking three months after Kyle’s sudden death at age 41 from complications following severe pneumonia and sepsis, the 2004 Cup Series champion broke down in tears as he recounted sitting at his younger brother’s hospital bedside in his final hours.
“I was there at the hospital. I was there all day, hoping, praying, hoping for a turnaround,” Kurt recalled, fighting back tears. “It’s just everything had plateaued so fast. It just escalated so fast. What I saw, what I went through, nobody needs to go through that.”
“I said, ‘I got you man, come on. I got you. I got you, come on. Be strong,'” Kurt said while wiping away tears. “It just wasn’t fair.”
Kurt Busch’s emotional interview with Craig Melvin serves as a painful reminder of the profound void left in NASCAR following Kyle Busch’s untimely passing. Seeing the tough, relentless elder brother shed tears while recalling those final words shows the unmatched bond between two legends.
