They’re calling him the Wemby stopper”, “Joel Embiid alternative

The Philadelphia 76ers signed Tacko Fall to an Exhibit 10 contract on Tuesday. The 7-foot-6 big man has not played in the NBA since the 2021-22 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. During that run, he appeared in 11 games, averaging 1.1 points and 2.1 rebounds.

Fall joins LeBron James and his former teammate, Jaylen Brown, who were both offseason acquisitions.

Since then, he has had professional stints in China with the CBA, playing for Xinjiang Flying Tigers in the 2022-23 season and the Nanjing Monkey Kings in 2023. That was followed by a stop in Australia’s NBL with the New Zealand Breakers in 2024. He returned to the CBA and played for the Nanjing Monkey Kings in 2025.

After the 76ers’ recent roster move, NBA fans went wild online.

“I’m crying they’re calling him the Wemby stopper,” a fan said.

“Joel Embiid replacement,” another fan commented.

“Bron & Taco Tuesday combination bouta go crazy,” one fan said.

More fans reacted to the team adding Fall.

“Sixers got Bron now they’re feeling a lil different 😭,” someone commented.

“This implies they believe they need a Wemby stopper for once they reach the finals,” a comment read.

“Tacko Fall gonna play more games than Embiid 😭,” one fan commented.

Although Fall isn’t one of the best NBA players, he has gained recognition from the fans. He became a fan favorite during his two years with the Boston Celtics.

Kendrick Perkins Reacts to Tacko Fall Joining the 76ers

When the 76ers signed Tacko Fall, former NBA player Kendrick Perkins joined in on the jokes. Perkins made a joke about how the team might choose to play San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama in the fall.

“Wemby is to Blame for this move!!! 76ers definitely going all in!!!” the former player posted.

The NBA world has always joked about the two players being matched against each other. However, Wembanyama is a far better player than those he is compared to. The 7-foot-4 star is the Spurs’ best player and has been named to the All-Star Game twice. He also won the Defensive Player of the Year award last season.

Wembanyama has started to dominate in the league with his all-around game. He also led the Spurs back to the playoffs last year, reaching the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014.

Fall, meanwhile, has struggled to remain in the NBA over the past few seasons. The last time fans saw him play in the league was in the 2026 Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.
