Mojang Studios has recently announced a new Minecraft Minecoin policy for Nintendo. These changes will be effective in late October, giving you ample time to learn about them and adjust. Basically, the Nintendo Switch’s Minecoin wallet is becoming exclusive and cannot be used through other platforms.

Nintendo Minecraft Minecoin policy update explained
Mojang Studios announced that starting October 27, 2026, Minecraft Minecoins purchased on Nintendo devices (Switch or Switch 2) will be usable only on those devices.
Similarly, if you purchase Minecraft Minecoins on other devices (Android, iOS, Windows, consoles), you will no longer be able to use them for Minecraft Marketplace purchases on Switch and Switch 2.
In short, Mojang is creating a new exclusive wallet for Switch and Switch 2. However, this does not change the already purchased in-game currency.

More details on Legacy and Nintendo Wallet
One important note from Mojang Studios is that the in-game currency you already own will not be subject to this new Minecoin policy. If you purchase in-game currency before October 27, it will move to a new Legacy Wallet. This wallet will continue to be usable across all compatible platforms.
There is no expiration date for the currency in the Legacy Wallet, but it will be used for purchases first. Then the new in-game currency from the new platform-exclusive Wallet will be used.
Here is a quick comparison between the two wallets that will work on Switch and Switch 2 from October 27, 2026:
- Legacy Wallet – Will store in-game currency purchased before the Minecoin policy date. The currency in this wallet can be used across all Bedrock Edition platforms. Currency from this wallet will be used first whenever making a purchase.
- New Exclusive Wallet – Will store in-game currency purchased after the policy date. The currency in this wallet can only be used on Switch and Switch 2. Currency from this wallet will be used after Legacy Wallet empties.

The new Minecraft Minecoin policy also brings changes to retail cards for the in-game currency. Any new retail cards will no longer support Switch and Switch 2. You should always look for the platforms listed on the packaging to ensure that the card supports the platform on which you play.
