Cam Skattebo and John Harbaugh are gearing up for the 2026 regular season. The second year running back and one-time Super Bowl-winning coach have so far navigated a mixed offseason.
With Week 1 around the corner, Skattebo spoke with Kay Adams on the current situation with his new head coach.

“There’s that video going around with me and Harbaugh on the sidelines of not liking what I said or whatever. But I think the conversation was just less of a happy joking conversation,” Skattebo said.

“It was just kind of a more serious conversation. Nothing negative or nothing positive, and there was just no emotion that needed to be shown during the conversation.

“But I’ll just say the conversation. The conversation was: Is it more messed up to need the ball going into your own end zone at the one-yard line or actually scoring it? And that’s kind of what we were talking about.
“Me and (Harbaugh) are on the same page, we love each other. Me and him talk every single day, there’s no bad blood between us.”
According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Cam Skattebo was involved in a brief fight with defensive backs Jevón Holland and Greg Newsome II during a late August practice session. Skattebo attempted a slide near his teammates’ legs.
John Harbaugh addressed the fracas in a presser. The former Baltimore Ravens coach labeled Skattebo’s high-octane energy “infectious,” while noting that it can swing negatively like an “infectious disease” if not channeled correctly.
Skattebo and Harbaugh have since dismissed any reports of friction. They are looking to help each other succeed in a crucial campaign for the Giants.
What’s next for Cam Skattebo?
The New York Giants selected Cam Skattebo on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Arizona State product was the eighth running back picked in his draft class, behind Ashton Jeanty, Omarion Hampton, Quinshon Judkins, TreVeyon Henderson, R.J. Harvey, Kaleb Johnson, and Bhayshul Tuten.
Skattebo promptly proved that he belonged in the big leagues. He amassed a stat line of 101 rushing attempts for 410 yards and five touchdowns, plus 24 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns in his first eight games as a member of the New York Giants. His chemistry with fellow rookie Jaxson Dart was a highlight of the 2025 campaign.
However, Skattebo’s season ended in Week 8 as he suffered an ankle injury against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants would go on to finish the season 4-13 and miss out on the playoffs for the eighth time in the last ten seasons.
Cam Skattebo has since recovered, and he’s looking to solidify his spot as one of the league’s most promising running backs. He and the Giants start the season with a Week 1 showdown against the Dallas Cowboys.
