Trump is still pushing for a quick end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Today (8), US President Donald J. Trump held an hour-long phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, persevering on his goal to bring peace to Europe.
This comes after Trump’s top envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled to both Moscow and Kiev, having very consequential meetings with both Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to a Kremlin aide, Trump reportedly told Putin that he wants a swift end to the war in Ukraine, something that he believes will unlock a wealth of US-Russia commercial ties.
Two days before the call, Jared Kushner told reporters in Kyiv that Trump was following the negotiations closely and working hard to “find a pathway to end this war.”

“Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters that the pair had discussed the outcome of U.S. peace negotiators’ weekend visit to Moscow and Kyiv – something he said both leaders had rated “with a plus sign” – and said that Putin had told Trump what he believed the United States could do to help end the conflict.
Putin had also given Trump his assessment of what the situation on the battlefield was and had made it clear that Russia had no hostile plans towards Europe, Ushakov said.”

“’Donald Trump clearly emphasized the desirability of bringing the conflict to an end as soon as possible, which would immediately open up prospects – impressive and far-reaching ones at that – for the full restoration of relations between the U.S. and Russia’, said Ushakov. ‘In his view, this would have a particular impact on trade and economic ties, promising enormous benefits for both countries. Donald Trump is keen to see a breakthrough achieved during his presidency. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin supported this approach’.”
TASS reported:
“The phone call lasted for exactly one hour and was constructive and candid, Putin’s aide Yury Ushakov said, adding that it focused on issues of the Ukrainian settlement. The leaders exchanged views on the results of the visits to Moscow and Kiev by US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
[…] According to the Kremlin aide, the call was held ‘on a positive note’ and was ‘constructive and very candid’.”
“The Russian leader lauded Melania Trump’s efforts toward the reunification of Russian and Ukrainian children with their families, he noted.
