New Jersey’s sanctuary-state disaster has delivered a brutal dose of reality to one Democrat family.
An illegal alien fleeing federal immigration officers reportedly sped through a red light and slammed into a Tesla driven by Dr. Penelope Cohen, the wife of East Brunswick Democrat Mayor Brad Cohen.
Dr. Cohen suffered a leg injury and was transported to a hospital following the September 2 wreck in North Brunswick, according to News 12 New Jersey.
The mayhem began at approximately 7:30 a.m. near Route 130 and Washington Place, where Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were conducting a targeted enforcement operation.
According to ICE, officers stopped the Acura and ordered the driver to exit. The illegal alien allegedly refused repeated lawful commands, prompting agents to attempt to remove him from the vehicle.
Instead of complying, the driver reportedly hit the gas, barreled through a red light and crashed into the rear of Cohen’s Tesla.
CBS News New York reported that both occupants of the Tesla were transported to a hospital with minor injuries. Mayor Cohen declined to discuss the crash, saying only that he was caring for his wife.
After wrecking the Acura, the suspect allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. ICE agents captured him following a brief pursuit.
ICE said the unidentified illegal alien would receive due process and “remain in custody pending removal proceedings.”
Federal authorities have not publicly released the suspect’s identity, nationality or complete immigration history.
North Brunswick officials emphasized that local police were not involved in the initial federal operation. Township officers responded only after the crash to handle the wreck and related public-safety issues.
But instead of condemning the illegal alien who allegedly ignored federal officers, fled at high speed and injured innocent motorists, Democrat Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman immediately attacked ICE.
“Today, it appears an ICE involved car chase resulted in an accident involving the wife of the Mayor of East Brunswick. ICE’s lawlessness is putting innocent people in harms way. Abolish ICE,” Watson Coleman wrote on X.
On Monday, an ICE vehicle drove into a prayer vigil outside Delaney Hall and drove over a woman’s foot.

You cannot make this up.
Assemblyman Paul Kanitra put it bluntly, according to Fox News: “This is just the latest in a long line of traffic incidents and vehicular incidents that wouldn’t occur if New Jersey didn’t have our sanctuary status that got codified as soon as Gov. Sherrill came into office.”
State Sen. Mike Testa added that the policies have “emboldened illegal aliens to engage in illegal behavior.” The illegal alien was stopped lawfully, ran a red light, fled federal authorities, and hit the mayor’s wife. “This is just another example of lawlessness,” Testa said.
That tells Americans everything they need to know about the modern Democrat Party’s priorities.
