Cleveland Browns fans are wondering why Shedeur Sanders’ merchandise is suddenly on clearance at the team’s store. The question was raised by Josh Aul, one of the co-hosts and producers of The Dawgs – A Cleveland Browns Podcast, in a video shared on Sept. 11.
Aul pointed out that Sanders’ jerseys are on sale across multiple stores, including Fanatics, the NFL Shop and the Browns team store. He said the discounted jerseys are not his No. 12 jerseys from last season. Instead, his new No. 2 jerseys from this season are also on clearance.

The jerseys, which normally sell for $150, are being offered for $40. The discount applies to men’s, women’s and kids’ jerseys.

Like one NFL fan pointed out, Aul also noted that the clearance is not limited to jerseys. Shirts and other merchandise featuring Sanders’ name are also marked down. Even a Funko figure featuring the Browns quarterback is on clearance.
Aul also dismissed the idea that the discounts were simply because Sanders is the Browns’ backup quarterback. He pointed out that Sanders’ merchandise was not put on clearance last year when he was the team’s third-string quarterback.
According to Aul, the only other Browns player whose merchandise is currently on clearance is Myles Garrett, who was traded by Cleveland in June.
Aul admitted that the discounts made him think about the recent trade rumors surrounding Sanders. He said he had not been taking those rumors seriously and called them “utter nonsense.”
However, the merchandise sale was enough to make him stop and consider whether something could be happening behind the scenes.
“I mean, I bought one, 40 bucks for a Browns jersey?” Aul said.
He then wondered whether the clearance could be an early sign that Shedeur Sanders may not remain with the Browns much longer.

On Sept. 8 episode of Nightcap, Shannon Sharpe, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and Joe Johnson discussed Todd Monken’s decision to name Deshaun Watson the Cleveland Browns‘ starting quarterback over Shedeur Sanders.
Sharpe strongly criticized the Browns’ front office and coaching staff, saying the quarterback competition was never real. He argued that Sanders was never going to get the starting job, no matter what happened during the offseason.
Sharpe used an extreme example to explain his frustration.
“Shedeur could have — if he threw 200 passes in the preseason, he could have gone 195 for 200 for 2,000 yards and 40 touchdowns, and he wasn’t starting. No, there was nothing. There was nothing Shedeur Sanders could have done,” Sharpe said.
Sharpe also pointed out that Sanders had better preseason numbers than Watson. Sanders completed 15 of 22 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown. Watson completed 16 of 27 passes for 162 yards and did not throw a touchdown. Watson was also booed by Browns fans during the preseason.
Johnson also said Watson will be under a lot of pressure and has a very short leash. He pointed to Cleveland’s early road games against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers as important tests.
According to Johnson, if Watson struggles early in the season, pressure from the fans and media could force the Browns to turn to Sanders.
The Cleveland Browns will open the 2026 NFL season against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 3.
