Jon Moxley has been leading the Death Riders for almost two years, and they have cemented themselves as one of the top factions in AEW. But could a sudden leadership change take place following recent events?
No member of the group has ever fully questioned Mox’s leadership. There have been moments of doubt and disappointment, but it has never led to his role as the leader being threatened. However, he has shown out-of-character behavior recently, as it seems that he still has a soft spot for Will Ospreay despite him turning his back on them.
This has led to some disputes within the group. Unlike before, he has shown restraint in attacking Ospreay, much to Gabe Kidd’s dismay. But Kidd’s loyalty to Jon Moxley has overpowered his hatred for the Aerial Assassin. At AEW All Out, Mox will be challenging Will for the world title. If he still shows hesitation in this match, this could lead to a power change within the group.
Gabe Kidd could challenge Moxley’s position as the leader of the Death Riders, as he no longer has the killer instinct the group needs. This could begin a civil war, with The Dogs backing Kidd, and some members being swayed to his side. If they can overpower the other party, a new leader could emerge soon. This would be all too similar to how Bryan Danielson was expelled from the group.
Clark Connors has issued a statement after his confrontation with Jon Moxley
The Dogs and the Death Riders have a brief alliance due to Gabe Kidd’s connection with both groups. So far, their partnership has been on good standing, and they have come out successful when working together.
However, there was a bit of friction during their backstage interaction last night on AEW Collision. The Dogs had a brief run-in with Will Ospreay a few days ago, but Jon Moxley stood in their path, seemingly protecting Ospreay. This led to David Finlay and Clark Connors both questioning Mox’s actions and why Kidd remained loyal to him at their expense.
Moxley answered back with a scathing response, as he reminded them that he was someone who had changed the business as they knew it. Connors took to social media to address this moment. He mentioned how he was just looking out for Gabe Kidd and had his best interests in mind.
“I respect Jon Moxley for everything he has done in and for this business. But I have been there with Gabe through it all. Highs and lows. Just needed to make sure he had GK’s best interest in mind. I think that is the case. Dogs 🤝 Death Riders We Run This Sh*t,” he wrote.
This partnership is beginning to show cracks, and could be on thin ice if Jon Moxley continues to show a soft spot for Will Ospreay. He could end up being on the wrong side of things if he loses the faith of some of his allies.
