Samantha Busch has opened up about the special bond Ty Gibbs has developed with her 11-year-old son, Brexton, following the tragic death of Kyle Busch. In an Instagram story, she revealed how the Joe Gibbs Racing driver has become a source of comfort for her son during an incredibly difficult time.
Kyle Busch died on May 21 at the age of 41 after severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis. His death left Brexton without his father, while Samantha was also forced to navigate the loss alongside her son. Amid the grief, Ty Gibbs has stepped up to support Brexton, spending time with him away from the racetrack and helping him cope with the loss.
Thanks for the submission!
In an Instagram story shared this week, Samantha Busch explained how much Gibbs has become a mentor to Brexton.
“Like, not only her, but Ty has been—I can’t even put into words how wonderful he’s been to Brexton. He’s been like a big brother. He’s been a source of comfort for him,” Samantha said.
Ty Gibbs has made an effort to spend quality time with Brexton, including taking him out for meals and enjoying their shared passion for racing.
“Ty’s still young himself, and he has come over. He’s taken Brexton to lunch. He’s ridden carts around our neighborhood with him. He came, picked him up, took him to breakfast, and then took him to the track to race Karts,” she continued.
“Ty knows what it’s like”: Samantha Busch believes Ty Gibbs understands what Brexton is experiencing

Samantha Busch also drew a comparison between Kyle Busch and Gibbs’ father, Coy Gibbs, noting that the two shared similar personalities. Coy Gibbs died in November 2022 at the age of 49, just days after watching his son Ty win the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship.
“And I just—like, NASCAR is family. You know, Ty knows what it’s like. It’s kind of funny. Coy and Kyle were so similar. They were just blunt, shoot you straight, you know, and just, gosh, like I think for Brexton to have Ty to understand exactly what he’s going through,” Samantha said.
Ty Gibbs will drive the iconic canary-yellow M&M’s paint scheme as a heartfelt tribute to the late Kyle in Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The special paint scheme was organized by Joe Gibbs Racing and Samantha Busch.
