The Middle East is a powder keg.
The confrontation between the Iran-backed Houthis and the Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces continues to escalate – and now, the attacks on Saudi Arabia are multiplying.
Today (19), explosions were heard, and smoke is now visible near Riyadh’s main airport.
Saudi Arabia had sent alerts overnight warning of potential danger around the capital, as the attacks by Houthis target their capital.

Some sources report that two Aramco fuel tanks north of the airport and the airport’s cargo building were targeted.

Reuters reported:
“Reuters video and photographs showed a huge pillar of black smoke rising in the area, with the airport highway, main terminal building and other facilities in the foreground. At one point in the video, flames were visible rising from behind what appeared to be fuel tanks.
There was no immediate comment from the Saudi government’s media office in response to Reuters questions about the smoke and the overnight alerts.”

Civil defense sent alerts by phone overnight, alerting of aerial attacks in Riyadh and the city of Al-Kharj, east of the capital.
The attacks against Saudi Arabia began in July after a naval blockade against Riyadh was declared. Houthi strikes have been targeting Saudi vessels in the Red Sea.
“The attacks have targeted Saudi cities, energy infrastructure and shipping, creating new threats to global oil supplies and putting at risk the main alternative Red Sea route for Gulf exports while traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains blockaded.”

Flight tracking websites report cancellations and delays at the airport.
AFP reported:
“Firefighters could be seen trying to extinguish the flames of a burnt-out fuel tank emblazoned with the logo of the Saudi oil giant Aramco near the airport, according to an AFP journalist at the scene.
Tracking website FlightRadar24 reported ‘major problems’ at the Saudi capital’s Riyadh King Khalid International Airport, listing it under its maximum disruption index.”
