After winning back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2024 and 2025, Sergei Bobrovsky’s seven-year association with the Florida Panthers ended in 2026. Following his departure, Bobrovsky signed a three-year, $21 million deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
While many wondered how Bobrovsky would deal with a change in environment, it looks like the Russian goalie has adapted well to the Toronto Maple Leafs. According to a recent update by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Bobrovsky has already become a big voice in the Maple Leafs locker room.
During an episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman said:
“Bobrovsky, I’ve heard, has become one of the biggest voices in there, that when he talks, mountains move. He won’t say a lot, but when he talks, they’re watching what he does.”
At 38, Sergei Bobrovsky is nearing the end of his hockey career. However, having a player like Bobrovsky remains beneficial for the Maple Leafs because, apart from being a big voice in the locker room, Bobrovsky is also a very experienced player who has won consecutive Stanley Cups.
Bobrovsky’s influence will be crucial as the Maple Leafs attempt to make the Stanley Cup playoffs, and potentially win hockey’s ultimate prize. Bobrovsky, along with Auston Matthews, will be instrumental in inspiring and mentoring the youngsters in the Maple Leafs setup.
Sergei Bobrovsky recently commented about playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs
On September 19th, Sergei Bobrovsky made his Toronto Maple Leafs preseason debut against the Montreal Canadiens at the Scotiabank Arena. After the game, Bobrovsky spoke about how it felt to be part of the Maple Leafs.
Bobrovsky said joining the Maple Leafs is another opportunity, and he is excited to be a part of the team.
“It’s another opportunity… That’s the hockey life. I’m here and I’m excited to be here, excited to be part of this team, part of this great group of guys and yeah, one moment at a time,” Bobrovsky said.
While Sergei Bobrovsky seems to be enjoying himself in Toronto, Auston Matthews was equally delighted to have Bobrovsky on his team. Matthews revealed he was very excited to be around Bobrovsky, and said his professionalism was extremely impressive.
