Tunisia and Uganda kick off their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign when they lock horns at the Hammad Agrebi stadium in the Group H opener on Thursday. Both sides met in the AFCON group stages back in December, with the Eagles of Carthage securing a comfortable 3-1 victory thanks to a brace from Elias Achouri and Ellyes Skhiri’s first-half strike.
Making a third consecutive appearance in the World Cup, it was a forgettable outing for Tunisia earlier this year, as they lost each of their three matches to finish rock-bottom in Group F.

This followed a disappointing run in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Eagles of Carthage crashed out in the round of 16 courtesy of a penalty-shootout defeat against Mali on January 3.
Tunisia head into Thursday’s group opener on a run of five consecutive defeats across all competitions, conceding 18 goals and scoring twice since a goalless draw against Canada on April 1.
On the other hand, Uganda are in action for the first time since their poor outing in the 2025 AFCON, where they suffered a group-stage exit after failing to win their three matches.
Paul Put’s men suffered 3-1 defeats against Tunisia and Nigeria on either side of a 1-1 stalemate against Tanzania on December 27, a result which saw them finish rock-bottom in Group C.
While Uganda will look to get off the mark in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, Thursday’s tie pits them against an opposing side who boast a 100% record in their previous clashes across all competitions.
