Chad Gable has revealed an unscripted moment that took place at SummerSlam this year. The 40-year-old star challenged Penta for the Intercontinental championship at the premium live event.
Both stars put on an exciting match with a lot of action and near falls. The contest ended when Gable put Penta in the Ankle Lock and made him submit to win the title.

The moment was special for him as the win came in his hometown of Minnesota, and he was joined by his family in the ring after the match. But there was a significant moment before that happened.
After losing the title, Penta acknowledged Gable’s efforts and put the championship belt around his waist. It marked a full-circle moment for Gable, who had earlier portrayed a gimmick mocking the lucha libre culture.
In a recent interview on the Complex Graps Wrestling Podcast, Chad Gable praised Penta as one of his favorite human beings and one of the best wrestlers in the world. He pointed out how gracious he was after dropping the Intercontinental title to him at SummerSlam.
“I also would be remiss if I didn’t just say, like, what a class act he was. Not too many people go that far anymore to, like, put the championship on you after you lose it, or after they lose it to you, you know?” he said.
The current Intercontinental champion then revealed that the moment when Penta put the title around his waist wasn’t planned in advance.
“None of that was talked about. None of that was discussed. It was just like, ‘No, this is yours now.’ And I had tears in my eyes from him doing that, because that’s, you know, that’s like the ultimate sign of respect that he just didn’t have to do. So, hats off to him for having some class,” he added.
Chad Gable set for NXT return
Chad Gable is set to return to NXT to defend his Intercontinental championship. Gable started his WWE career down in the developmental brand and was part of a tag team with Jason Jordan known as American Alpha.
Now, nearly four years after his last appearance on the brand, he will be competing on NXT house shows on September 25th in Columbia, South Carolina, and September 26th in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Chad Gable will put his championship on the line against NXT star Saquon Shugars on the September 25 show.
