Liverpool have announced that Alexander Isak has returned to the club after picking up a minor injury while on international duty. He will be assessed by the medical team at the AXA Training Centre and will aim to return to full fitness ahead of their upcoming clash against Manchester City on October 11.
Alexander Isak featured for Sweden during their 2-1 UEFA Nations League win over Romania on September 25. The 27-year-old scored an outstanding goal from outside the box in the 20th minute and played the full 90 minutes. However, he picked up a minor toe injury during the game following a forceful stamp.

As a result, Isak will now miss Sweden’s next three fixtures during the current international break. Liverpool posted on their official website:
“Alexander Isak is to return to Liverpool from international duty due to a minor injury. The striker will not be involved in Sweden’s three remaining fixtures in the current international break and will now be assessed by club medical staff at the AXA Training Centre.”
With Hugo Ekitike already sidelined with a long-term injury, the Anfield faithful will be hoping Isak makes a swift recovery. The latter has been in form for Liverpool this season, netting four goals and providing one assist in seven appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was recently left surprised that Andoni Iraola did not sub Florian Wirtz off at half-time during their 1-0 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League (September 20). Carragher criticized Wirtz following the latter’s underwhelming performance, claiming that the Germany international has to contribute more due to his £100 million price tag.
The Reds secured the three points following Alexander Isak’s winner in the 57th minute. However, Wirtz notably struggled to make an impact during his 71 minutes on the pitch before being replaced by Trey Nyoni.
Carragher wasn’t impressed by Wirtz’s first-half performance, stating (via METRO):
“That’s the third time Wirtz has got balls in simple areas and he has to do better. Simple passes, simple controls. Wirtz has been really poor again. It’s just nothing. Nothing is happening there at all. In the main, people have been understanding of his situation. He’s new to the league and Liverpool were poor last season. When you come for that price tag, people want goals and assists.”
He added:
“I’m surprised Wirtz hasn’t come off. His first two touches, he’s given it away twice. I didn’t expect him back on the pitch after half-time.”
Wirtz has yet to find the back of the net this season, despite making six appearances across all competitions for the Reds.
