“Zero self-awareness,” “Allergic to accountability”: NFL followers rip “tone deaf” Cam Ward for controversial feedback after Titans loss

Cam Ward has had yet another horrible start to a season in his NFL career, yet he is apparently in self-denial regarding his decision-making.

On the final play of his Tennessee Titans‘ game against the New York Giants on Sunday, the quarterback threw an ill-advised end-zone interception to Jevon Holland. The turnover sealed a 7-12 defeat and ruined what might have been one of his best games so far, as he had completed 23 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown to Wan’Dale Robinson beforehand:

During his post-game presser, he insisted that he did not throw recklessly despite being wide open for a huge rushing gain, only that he should have thrown higher:

Fans were outraged at his comments:

“If this is how he really feels on the final play, then he is the most tone deaf quarterback in the NFL,” one raged.

“This guy is cooked. Zero self-awareness,” one shuddered.

“Cam is allergic to accountability,” another claimed.

“Cam Ward is really going to be a bigger draft bust than JaMarcus Russell, won’t he?” another wondered.

“So he’s blind beyond repair, ouch,” another winced.

“He was a supremely talented player with a penchant for head scratching mistakes,” one rued.

The Giants, on the other hand, had yet another offensive off-day, as Jameis Winston had only 118 yards and no touchdowns on 14 completions and Cam Skattebo generated only 60 yards despite 20 carries. However, they were buoyed by rookie kicker Dominic Zvada, whose four field goals in the first three quarters accounted for their entire scoring output.

Meanwhile, Titans head coach Robert Saleh had a different perception of Cam Ward‘s costly turnover. During his own post-game press conference, he said:

“Just be smarter with the football. We’ve got two timeouts left. It’s 1st-and-goal at the 8. We’re going to score. You don’t need to force it in that situation, and unfortunately, it happened.”

However, when asked if Ward would be benched after an 0-3 start, Saleh had a blunt response:

“No.”

The Titans will remain on the road in search of their first victory, as they travel to the Baltimore Ravens a week from now. Kickoff is at 12 p.m. CT on CBS.
