The WNBA playoffs are in full swing, with all eight teams in action this weekend. Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream were among the winners, defeating the Washington Mystics 92-77. The victory gave Reese her first playoff win before Caitlin Clark, prompting her fans to take shots at the Fever star.
I Talk Hoops highlighted Reese one-upping her rival on X (formerly Twitter).
“FUN STAT: Angel Reese becomes the first top-seven pick from her draft class to win a playoff game! ✨,” I Talk Hoops wrote.
The Fever have made the playoffs every year since Clark entered the league, but the guard is still waiting for her first postseason win. Indiana was swept by the Connecticut Sun in Clark’s rookie season, while the team reached the semifinals last year without her after she was ruled out with an injury.
Sunday brought another setback for Clark and the Fever as they fell to the Las Vegas Aces. That result allowed Reese to pick up a playoff victory before her rival, giving her fans another reason to take a shot at Clark.
“But Cait . . . . Oh,” a fan wrote, mocking Clark.
“Natural born winner. Cc still hasn’t won a playoff game,” another fan remarked.
While Reese fans took the opportunity to slam Clark, the Fever guard’s fans quickly came to her support.
“She was carried vs the youngest team in the league go sit down,” a fan commented.
Reese impressed in her first-ever playoff game, recording another double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Meanwhile, Clark had a decent outing herself with 15 points and 10 assists, but was unable to help secure the win.
Atlanta Dream head coach praises Angel Reese after her playoff debut
The Atlanta Dream secured an impressive win over the Washington Mystics on Sunday. While Rhyne Howard led the charge with 26 points, Angel Reese also enjoyed a memorable outing, recording a double-double in her playoff debut.
After the game, Dream head coach Karl Smesko highlighted Reese’s performance, praising the rookie for her impressive showing in her first postseason game.
“I mean she’s a competitor and she’s fearless and she just has an attack mode about her,” Smesko said. “I thought second half we were a lot better at moving the ball, getting into screening actions and just kind of naturally letting some of the scores develop. And Angel was a big part of that in the second half.
“First playoff game to have a double-double. Really good start for her and hopefully the start of a lot of big nights for her in the playoffs.”
The Dream will travel to Washington for Game 2 on Wednesday, looking to complete the sweep and book their place in the semifinals.
