“I’m sorry” – WWE Star Apologizes After Major Announcement; Makes Huge Promise

Mason Rook broke his silence after WWE announced a major last-minute change to the NXT Championship picture.

Rook was originally scheduled to challenge Grayson Waller for the NXT Championship on the September 29 episode of NXT. However, WWE announced shortly before the show that the rising star was not medically cleared to compete, forcing the company to change its plans.

Taking to X, Rook apologized to fans who were expecting to see him compete in one of the biggest matches of his NXT run.

“I’m sorry. Sometimes life is cruel. Every fiber of my being wanted to compete tonight, but unfortunately, it is out of my control. I promise this is just a speed bump and not a roadblock,” Rook wrote.

The message indicates that Rook intends to return to action once he is medically cleared. The promotion has not disclosed why Rook was not cleared, nor has the company provided a timetable for his return.

Mason Rook had earned his WWE NXT Championship opportunity

On the September 15 edition of NXT, Rook defeated Tony D’Angelo and Saquon Shugars in the Triple Threat No.1 Contender’s match to earn a shot at the NXT Championship. That victory put him directly against Grayson Waller. He had captured the NXT Championship at this year’s Heatwave and was scheduled to make his first televised title defense against Rook.

Despite Rook’s inability to compete, the Stamford-based promotion went ahead with Waller’s title defense with an open challenge. EK Prosper eventually answered but could not win the NXT Championship.

For now, the biggest question surrounding Mason Rook and NXT is when he will be cleared to return.
