10 NFL Players Who Desperately Need To Win A Super Bowl To Solidify Their Hall of Fame Cases

Making it to the Hall of Fame is one of the biggest achievements in an NFL player’s career. However, individual brilliance is often not enough to make the cut.

Many players dominated for decades but are now forgotten because they never secured a Super Bowl ring. They were stars on teams that lacked playoff success, which hurt their chances of making the Hall of Fame.

In the modern era, players like Trey McBride and Justin Jefferson have shown flashes of greatness but risk being left out of the Hall of Fame because of a lack of team success.

With that in mind, here are 10 NFL players who need to win a Super Bowl to bolster their Hall of Fame case:

#1 Justin Jefferson, WR, Minnesota Vikings

Justin Jefferson has been consistently dominant, with a run of 1,000-yard seasons dating back to 2020. However, the Minnesota Vikings have not been able to capitalize on his impressive performances. Nevertheless, it would only take one Super Bowl run to turn Jefferson from a player on the fringes of Canton into a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

#2 Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers

Brock Purdy has played in a Super Bowl, but he has not won a ring. Purdy has shown plenty of ability, but he needs to do more.

Purdy has established himself as the starting quarterback for the 49ers and could be poised for a 15-year career. However, one Super Bowl appearance is not enough to stake a Hall of Fame claim. Two Super Bowl appearances with one victory, on the other hand, would add a lot to his resume.

#3 Chris Olave, WR, New Orleans Saints

Chris Olave‘s best chance to win a Super Bowl may be with Tyler Shough, if the quarterback keeps ascending. Olave has not played in a playoff game yet. If he can’t show his talents in a make-or-break moment like the Super Bowl, he will have a much tougher case for the Hall of Fame.

Olave’s predecessor, Michael Thomas, was a Saints legend at his peak after leading the league in receiving yards in 2019 and receptions in 2018. However, he’s still chasing Hall of Fame status, and Olave will not want to end up in the same boat.

#4 Trey McBride, TE, Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals haven’t been in a Super Bowl since 2009. If Trey McBride wants to be in the Hall of Fame conversation, he will need to break out on the biggest stage and end the Cardinals’ drought.

Otherwise, his current pace with only one double-digit touchdown season might not be good enough. Antonio Gates took a full 15-year career to reach Hall of Fame status. Few tight ends make it that long, so McBride will need a Super Bowl multiplier.

#5 Jared Goff, QB, Detroit Lions

Jared Goff has made it to one Super Bowl, but to be considered an elite quarterback, he will need to win a ring. His Hall of Fame case may rest on it.

Goff’s struggles in the biggest games with Los Angeles and Detroit are well documented. The Lions’ Super Bowl window won’t be open forever, making the next few seasons paramount for Goff.

#6 Drake London, WR, Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons have historically spent little time in the spotlight since the Matt Ryan era. While Drake London is a solid player who can consistently hit the 1,000-yard mark, he needs playoff success to prove he can reach the next level.

The Falcons have not reached the postseason since London was drafted in the first round in 2022, and that lack of collective success will hurt his chances, no matter how many yards he racks up in the regular season.

#7 Maxx Crosby, DE, Las Vegas Raiders

Maxx Crosby has been stuck on a Las Vegas Raiders team that has not won the AFC West since 2002. Unlike other star pass rushers, Crosby has never delivered a game-changing sack in a Super Bowl.

While he is mentioned in the same breath as stars like Von Miller and Aaron Donald, both those players have Super Bowl rings. Miller won Super Bowl MVP in 2016, while Aaron Donald sealed Super Bowl LVI with a sack of Joe Burrow.

#8 Micah Parsons, DE, Green Bay Packers

Micah Parsons showed plenty of ability early in his career with the Dallas Cowboys, but availability issues have plagued him in Green Bay.

Only five defensive ends have been added to the Hall of Fame since 2020, making the bar sky-high for Parsons.

#9 Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott’s Hall of Fame prospects hinge on his ability to deliver one more Super Bowl for Jerry Jones. Prescott has shown plenty of ability in the regular season, but he risks joining a line of quarterbacks who failed to reach February since the 1990s.

Prescott has had plenty of weapons in his career, including Ezekiel Elliott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens, so his lack of playoff success is a concern.

Former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is still chasing the Hall of Fame after a quality career was marred by playoff failures.

Prescott will need to take a step forward in January to have a realistic shot.

#10 James Cook III, RB, Buffalo Bills

James Cook III has been reliable but not spectacular as Josh Allen’s right-hand man. However, if a highlight reel of Cook taking over a Super Bowl were available, it would change the conversation entirely. Right now, Cook is a solid back with 1,000 yards on the ground in each of his last three seasons.

The Bills haven’t reached the Super Bowl since 1993, so if Cook is the piece that finally gets them over the top after decades of struggle, his Hall of Fame case will be rock solid. However, at 27, the clock is ticking.
