Well, so much for the Padres.
San Diego’s season came to a crashing halt Wednesday night as the Milwaukee Brewers slammed the door shut at Petco Park. Game 3 offered a brief pulse, but the Padres’ offense flatlined when it mattered most in a season-ending 3-1 Game 4 defeat.

The Padres loaded the bases with two outs in the first, but Xander Bogaerts popped out to leave everyone stranded. That squandered chance bit San Diego two innings later when Garrett Mitchell ripped an RBI single off Walker Buehler to put Milwaukee ahead.
Fernando Tatis Jr. provided the lone spark in the third, crushing a solo home run off Robert Gasser to tie it 1-1.

The dagger came in the eighth.
With a runner on, Manny Machado launched a 107-mph missile to deep center field that sent Petco Park into a frenzy.
It looked like a game-tying two-run bomb.
But Garrett Mitchell tracked it down, leaped at the wall, and robbed Machado on the warning track.
Trevor Megill slammed the door in the ninth, striking out the side to seal the 3-1 victory and send Milwaukee to the NLCS.
Tee times await, boys.
