Gears of War: E-Day introduced Horde Siege, a new multiplayer PvE mode and this time it is different from the Horde experience from previous games. Instead of simply defending a location against waves of Locust, players must complete different objectives across large maps while working with other squads.
Horde Siege supports up to 12 players divided into three squads, with each squad receiving its own objectives. The mode also introduces class-based progression and an extraction system that rewards players for successfully completing their missions.
There are four playable classes in Horde Siege at launch, each offering a different combat role and starting loadout. Here is everything you need to know about the classes, equipment, progression system, and other important mechanics in Gears of War: E-Day.

Horde Siege features four classes: Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic. Each class has its own starting weapons and tactical gear which can be customized as players progress through the game. Here are the classes and what they bring.
Assault

The Assault class specializes in mid-range combat and is designed for players who prefer a balanced approach. It receives additional damage bonuses when fighting from cover, making it suitable for defending objectives and supporting teammates.
The Assault class starts with the following loadout:
- Primary: Prototype Lancer
- Secondary: Gnasher
- Sidearm: Snub
- Equipment: Smoke Grenade
- Tactical Gear: Sonic Disruptor
Assault is a suitable starting class for players who want flexibility without committing entirely to close-range or long-range combat.
Breacher

The Breacher class focuses on aggressive, close-range combat. It has increased resistance to melee damage and status effects, allowing players to remain effective during encounters where enemies are nearby.
The Breacher class starts with the following loadout:
- Primary: Gnasher
- Secondary: Lancer MK1
- Sidearm: Snub
- Equipment: Smoke Grenade
- Tactical Gear: Adrenaline Injector
This class is particularly useful for players who prefer pushing forward rather than remaining behind cover.
Marksman

The Marksman class specializes in long-range precision damage and eliminating priority targets. It receives improved critical-hit damage, rewarding players who can consistently land accurate shots.
The Marksman class starts with the following loadout:
- Primary: Longshot
- Secondary: Hammerburst
- Sidearm: Snub
- Equipment: Smoke Grenade
- Tactical Gear: Pulse Drone
Marksman is best suited for taking down enemies from a distance. Its ability to identify targets also makes it useful for supporting other classes during larger encounters.
Medic

The Medic class focuses on keeping teammates alive while providing support during combat. It has faster health regeneration than the other classes and can assist players from different squads.
The Medic class starts with the following loadout:
- Primary: Hammerburst
- Secondary: Gnasher
- Sidearm: Snub
- Equipment: Smoke Grenade
- Tactical Gear: Stim Vaporizer
Medic is an important support class in this Gears of War mode, especially during difficult missions where players may frequently need assistance. However, the class can also participate directly in combat rather than focusing exclusively on healing.
How to play Horde Siege in Gears of War: E-Day

Unlike the traditional Horde mode, Horde Siege takes place across larger environments where multiple squads can operate simultaneously. Each squad receives its own mission objectives, but you may encounter other squads while progressing through the battlefield.
Each Horde Siege class features 30 progression levels at launch, with additional equipment and customization options becoming available as players level up. Progression unlocks new weapons, equipment, and different mods as well. Players also receive improvements to their base health and damage at certain milestones.
Horde Siege also features a difficulty system tied to class progression. As you increase your class levels, you gain access to more challenging missions with greater rewards.
The higher difficulty settings include:
- Infantry: Recommended for class levels 10 to 20.
- Commander: Recommended for class levels 20 to 30.
- Allfather: Recommended for players who have reached the maximum class level.
The game recommends a difficulty based on your current class level, although squads can make their own selection. If you are still learning the mechanics, you should focus on understanding your class abilities and completing objectives before attempting the highest difficulties.
