“He lost the locker room. Retire old man”: NFL followers react to Jim Harbaugh’s baffling response on Chargers’ 0-5 begin

Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers put up a 0-5 record after another disappointing showcase on the field. On Sunday, they suffered a 23-17 loss to the Denver Broncos. This season is the worst start to a campaign of his coaching career.

In the postgame press conference, Harbaugh was asked what his message was for the team as they navigate through this difficult period. The Chargers coach seemed to struggle to find the right words.

“Yeah, I don’t know what that message is,” Harbaugh said. “The players that just fight their heart outs, give it everything they have, that’s the only way. That’s the best way.”

Social media was flooded with reactions to Harbaugh’s bewildering comments.

“He lost the locker room. Retire old man,” one fan commented.

“It’s so over for him,” another fan said.

“I like Jim but time for a change I guess. He’s over his head,” a fan wrote.

“How does he still have a job,” another fan said.

“Leader of men. Tank commander,” one fan wrote.

“Fire him into the sun,” another fan commented.

The Broncos took an early lead on Sunday after J.K. Dobbins scored a rushing TD in the first quarter. Jim Harbaugh’s team cut the deficit to 7-3 in the second quarter after Cameron Dicker’s 42-yard field goal. Wil Lutz scored a field goal of his own as the Broncos took a 10-3 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert tied the game after connecting with Hayden Rucci for a seven-yard passing TD. Running back Kimani Vidal’s 42-yard rushing TD gave Harbaugh’s team a 17-10 lead.

However, the fourth quarter saw the Broncos go on an offensive spree. Quarterback Bo Nix scored a five-yard passing touchdown to make it 17-17. Two consecutive field goals from Wil Lutz sealed the win for the Broncos.

Nix completed 16-of-27 passes for 123 yards and a TD. Meanwhile, Justin Herbert completed 14-of-24 passes for 121 yards, one TD and one INT.

NFL analyst rips Jim Harbaugh for disappointing loss to the Broncos

On Sunday’s episode of ‘NFL on CBS,’ analyst Pete Prisco went scorched earth on Jim Harbaugh. He did not shy away from questioning the Chargers coach’s game management and play-calling decisions in the fourth quarter.

“The reason they (the Broncos) won the football game is because Jim Harbaugh’s an idiot,” Prisco said. “Harbaugh knows 50,000 times more about football than I do. He’s won a national championship in college. He’s played in the Super Bowl.

“But what in the h**l are you doing? The Broncos hadn’t done a thing on offense. … If you want to blame somebody for the loss, it wasn’t the bad offense, it wasn’t the injuries, it wasn’t that. It was Jim Harbaugh. He’s the reason they lost the football game.”

The Chargers are next scheduled to face the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 18 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
