Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green claimed that the LA Lakers’ Luka Doncic and the Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum are unlikely to win the NBA MVP award in their careers.
In a clip from an episode of “The Draymond Green Show” posted on X on Wednesday, Green explained his reasoning and referenced four-time NBA MVP LeBron James, stating he believes James deserved more MVP awards.
Thanks for the submission!
“This is the last possible year (Doncic) could win it,” Green said. “Because Luka can go average 34 points a game (and) they gonna be like, ‘Yeah, of course Luka can average 34 points a game.’ And it’s like JT gonna average like 30, and they gonna be like, ‘Yeah, we know he can average 30 points a game.’

“Both of them can average 30, 11, and eight, (and it) won’t be viewed as somebody else averaging those numbers. It’s like people get fatigued of it. (The) same thing happened with LeBron James. You can’t tell me he only should have four MVPs.”
Green’s comment earned mixed reactions on social media:
“Taylor Rooks (is) really decreasing (this) guy’s IQ by 25%,” one fan wrote.
“How they got voter fatigue on something they never got voted for?” another fan tweeted.
“Same with (Nikola) Jokic… Averaging triple-double and fans be like, ‘Oh, that’s normal for him.” Jokic has been doing this for years, and we are tired of it,” one fan posted.
Here are other reactions:
“He’s right, the standards they set at such a young age (are) already so high that people expect them to average 30/10, and if they don’t, it’s a bad game,” one fan wrote.
“When the person you hate the most makes a good point,” another fan wrote.
“It’s more like real fans that watch ball will never get a chance to vote, so we have to deal with the current d**b**s voting system to select our MVPs,” a fan commented.
Doncic and Tatum are widely considered among the top NBA players today. Last season, Doncic led the league in scoring at 33.5 points per game. He also averaged 8.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds on 47.6% shooting in 64 games for the Lakers.
Meanwhile, Tatum appeared in only 16 games during the 2025-26 season while recovering from an Achilles injury, averaging 21.8 ppg, 10.0 rpg, and 5.3 apg.
Draymond Green believes Jayson Tatum will not win MVP due to his early career achievements
In the same episode of “The Draymond Green Show” on Wednesday, Draymond Green said Jayson Tatum’s early-career success is the primary reason he won’t win MVP in the future.
“He will never win an MVP because of how much success he had young,” Green said. “He’s had that level of success or better for so long that it’s not even recognized. Same thing with Luka, by the way.”
Tatum has reached the playoffs in each of his first nine NBA seasons. Heading into this season, the Celtics are also the winningest team of the past decade, with 530 regular-season victories. Tatum has helped lead Boston to the 2024 title, consistent top-of-the-conference finishes, and multiple deep playoff runs.
Green picked New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson as MVP this season, while his guest co-host, Taylor Rooks, selected San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.
