After the Cowboys lost to the Packers last week, coach Brian Schottenheimer called out George Pickens. He stated that the wide receiver needs to better adapt to the offense and challenged him to have more impact on the run game.
At Friday’s press conference, Pickens was asked about Schottenheimer’s comments.
Thanks for the submission!
“Well, I’m doing what they tell me to do. So, do what they tell me to do,” Pickens said when asked about being more involved with the offense.

“I feel like if you narrow the comments down, you’re talking about the team. Most definitely, I feel like as a team, just keep improving,” Pickens said about Schottenheimer’s comments about how he needs to block better.

Fans on social media shared their reactions to the wide receiver’s response to Schottenheimer’s criticisms.
“Feels like the beginning of the end,” one fan commented.
“Yup it’s over 2030 we here,” another fan said.
“This guy can go,” a fan wrote.
“Seems like this is going down a bad path and every loss is gonna make it worse,” another fan said.
“The dark glasses are a bad sign. The young man definitely isn’t smiling like a few weeks ago,” one fan wrote.
“Things aren’t going great in Dallas,” another fan commented.
Pickens spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In May 2025, the franchise traded him and a 2027 sixth-rounder to the Cowboys for a 2026 third-rounder and a 2027 fifth-round pick.
Last season, the wide receiver posted 1,429 yards on 93 receptions and nine TDs.
What did Brian Schottenheimer exactly say about George Pickens?
After the loss to the Packers, Brian Schottenheimer addressed the questions surrounding George Pickens‘ on-field efforts on Thursday.
“These guys play a lot of snaps. I think part of it is us rotating those guys through, but he needs to understand that he impacts us in the running game as well,” Schottenheimer said.
“And he’s got to do the same thing in the run game, picking up safeties and blocking corners just like Javonte [Williams] does, picking up blitzes so he can catch balls. And that’s part of the team-first mindset and GP does understand that. And when he’s going, they’re going to place off to his side. When he’s not going, then the safeties get pretty good runs at our backs and that’s got to improve.”
In six games this season, Pickens recorded 428 yards on 33 receptions with just one touchdown. The Cowboys are 2-4 with a two-game losing streak.
Brian Schottenheimer and his team next face the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday at 8:15 p.m. ET.
