AS Roma take on Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome for a matchday nine Italian Serie A encounter on Tuesday. This is the first mid-week round of Serie A matches for the 2026-27 season.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side fought back through a 69th-minute strike from Matías Soulé, while the first goal of Leonardo Balerdi’s brace tied things up for the first time in the 74th minute, with a second from Roma’s center-back on 89 minutes restoring parity for a 3-3 draw.

Meanwhile, Cagliari are eighth in the Serie A table with 13 points to their name from the first eight matches.

After a positive start that included four wins and only one loss in their first six matches, Cagliari have lost their two most recent matches, 4-0 away to Monza and 2-0 at home against Bologna.

Those results have stalled the momentum of the Rossoblù, and they will be determined to get back to winning ways, but this away match against an in-form contender for Scudetto glory may not provide the ideal time to do so.

Having said that, coach Fabio Pisacane will be aware that the Isolani face a tough selection of top-flight matches in the next few weeks until the end of November, with the game against Roma followed by clashes with Lazio, Frosinone, Como, and AC Milan.
