“I puked and cr*pped down my leg”: Erin Andrews speaks out about ‘inappropriate’ sideline blunder after Matt LaFleur interview

Erin Andrews discussed how she graded her halftime report from Sunday’s Green Bay Packers-Detroit Lions game. The Fox Sports reporter described the fallout on Tuesday on her “Calm Down” podcast with co-host Charissa Thompson.

Andrews said she normally gets time for two questions with a coach at the break. The long ramp at Detroit’s Ford Field gave her four or five with Packers coach Matt LaFleur, but she was back on the field with about one minute before Fox returned to air.

With the clock shrinking, Andrews said:

“I puked and cr*pped down my leg for my halftime hit, which I’m frustrated about. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to shore up my notes.’ And I’m like, ‘Wait, s***. What did he say about going for it?’ Because I never want to quote a coach and get it wrong.”

She replayed her recording of the interview, then heard from her producer that Fox would come to her first. That’s when she realized she had no injury information. She went looking for a PR staffer while the broadcast was already underway.

Andrews made it back to the camera in time for Kevin Burkhardt’s handoff but said she stumbled through the report. She relayed that LaFleur wanted Green Bay to finish drives and was mad at himself for going for it on fourth-and-4 from the Detroit 7-yard line instead of kicking a field goal. The Packers failed to convert while trailing 10-7 in the second quarter.

“I’m fully f***ing out of breath, which is inappropriate,” Andrews said. “Like, get it together, sister. In through the nose, out through the mouth. It was all because the ramp was so long.”

She ultimately delivered the injury updates after some banter with Burkhardt.

“Oh my God, how many people are watching, and I just s*** down my leg,” Andrews told Thompson. “I’m so much better than that.”

Recording coach interviews, and a pointed history

Erin Andrews said she has recorded her conversations with coaches for the past couple of years because a coach may say something she wants to capture exactly.

“I never want to misquote,” she said.

However, in November 2023, her co-host Charissa Thompson faced intense criticism after admitting to inventing sideline reports early in her career. Andrews had previously noted on a January 2022 episode of “Calm Down” that she had occasionally paraphrased or protected coaches who gave unhelpful or incorrect information.
