Eleanor Coppola — the filmmaker and spouse of famed director Francis Ford Coppola — has died … in keeping with an announcement made by her household.
The matriarch of the well-known movie household handed away Friday at her house in Rutherford, CA … a small city in Napa Valley. They didn’t give a reason for dying.
Eleanor met Francis in 1962 whereas working as an assistant artwork director on his first film, “Dementia 13” … and the couple began courting.
Eleanor bought pregnant shortly thereafter, married Coppola in Las Vegas and gave start to their first son, Gian-Carlo.
The couple had two extra youngsters … producer Roman Coppola and director Sofia Coppola — establishing a real dynasty in filmmaking.
And, Eleanor caught with filmmaking too … capturing behind-the-scenes footage of a lot of her husband’s tasks — together with “Apocalypse Now” which she become the 1991 documentary “Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse.”
Eleanor later stated she was simply attempting to maintain herself busy whereas capturing the footage … and, she occurred to seize a really disastrous manufacturing the place lead actor Martin Sheen had a coronary heart assault, and a building crew member died.
Later in life, Eleanor bought into narrative filmmaking … directing “Paris Can Wait” in 2016 and “Love Is Love Is Love” in 2020.
She’s survived by Francis, Roman, Sofia and her many grandchildren.
Eleanor was 87.
