A major update gave insight into AEW‘s canceled plans for Toni Storm at the Forbidden Door 2026 pay-per-view.
The Timeless One has emerged as one of the top attractions for the Jacksonville-based wrestling promotion. Moreover, Storm’s last televised match saw her pick up a huge win over Marina Shafir and had an intense confrontation with Ronda Rousey at the AEW Revolution PPV. However, on the following episode of Dynamite, she was found ambushed by a mystery assailant backstage.
Since that unfortunate night, Toni Storm has not been seen on television, and follow-up reports suggest she may be out for the remainder of the year. According to the latest report by Fightful Select, AEW had originally penciled Storm to win the Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament at Forbidden Door this year.
The plans pivoted to Willow Nightingale after Storm’s disappearance. However, the company had to alter its plans once again after Nightingale was sidelined by a shoulder injury last month. The report concluded that AEW made major changes to all women’s singles plans following Storm and Nightingale’s absences.
AEW President made a huge revelation regarding Toni Storm’s absence
Timeless Toni Storm had been a major fixture on television on a regular basis. Sometime after her hiatus, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan addressed the situation and made a huge revelation. Shahid Khan’s son said he had many plans involving the Hollywood Starlet this year. However, after she disappeared from TV, the plans were changed within a matter of days.
“I have thoughts extensively about … the changes I’m making and changes I have made throughout the year. You know certainly that if you’d asked me at the scrum after Revolution, I had a lot of plans this year that involved Timeless Toni Storm. Those plans are very different without her being available. I that changed within a matter of days,” he said.
Furthemore, had Storm been around and won the Owen Cup this year, it could have inserted her back into the AEW World Championship picture after a long time. With her uncertain future at the moment, it remains to be seen when the top star will be back in the company.
