Welcome along to the latest edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling’s AEW News & Rumor Roundup. Today, we are looking at news involving top pro-wrestling names, including Samantha Irvin and Megan Bayne, among others.
Ricochet has revealed why he asked his wife, Samantha Irvin, to leave WWE. Meanwhile, a top AEW star shares his disdain for getting “no respect”, and Megan Bayne has shocked fans with a questionable online post. We’ve got some exciting stories to cover today, so without further ado, let’s get this roundup started.
#5. Ricochet jokes about making Samantha Irvin quit WWE to take care of their kids
Ricochet recently made a shocking social media comment about his wife, Samantha Irvin, leaving WWE. Irvin officially left the sports entertainment juggernaut in October 2024, exactly three months after Ricochet made his own exit. Following the recent WWE releases of several prominent stars, including the real-life couple Aleister Black and Zelina Vega, a fan noted on X that the company had now released both couples. Ricochet quickly corrected the narrative, asserting that he left on his own terms and that he subsequently forced Irvin to quit.
Another fan responded by posting an old clip of the former National Champion, sarcastically claiming that Ricochet forced his wife to leave so she could take care of the home and kids. Ricochet played along, replying to the fan on X:
“Exactly how it went!”
As of today, Samantha Irvin remains under a WWE non-compete clause set to expire in October 2026. It will be interesting to see whether she returns to wrestling thereafter.
#4. Dustin Rhodes upset at fan not including him in his greatest Intercontinental Champions list
Dustin Rhodes has publicly expressed his dismay after being excluded from a social media list highlighting some of WWE’s greatest Intercontinental Champions. A user on X posted a graphic featuring notable titleholders across different generations, such as The Miz and Gunther, asking fans to choose their favorite. The Natural, who had a combined tenure of more than two decades with the Stamford-based promotion before joining AEW in 2019, quickly noticed his absence. Feeling disrespected as a three-time champion in the late 1990s, the veteran reacted by writing:
“Um…. no respect for me as usual”.
Meanwhile, the former AEW TNT champion also shared an encouraging update on his ongoing hiatus from the ring. Rhodes has been out of action since late July of last year, when he lost the TNT title to Kyle Fletcher and then underwent double knee replacement surgery. Last week, the veteran took to X to share his recent X-rays, which his doctor responded to very positively. It remains to be seen when Rhodes can finally return to the ring.
#3. Megan Bayne’s Questionable Caption Causes a Stir Online
Megan Bayne, currently one-half of the reigning AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions alongside Lena Kross, recently caused quite a stir on X. The 27-year-old star, who debuted in early 2025 and captured the gold at Revolution 2026, shared a pair of pictures of herself at a bar in Tokyo, Japan, holding two beer mugs. The relatively normal pictures were accompanied by a caption that completely broke the internet. Bayne wrote:
“double fisting 🍻.”
Check out her post on X below:
The phrase has sexual undertones, but was clearly posted in jest. Fans were taken aback by the laid-back humor, which stands in stark contrast to her serious on-screen Megasus character, though no one was offended.
#2. Kevin Nealon and Tony Khan respond as Andrew Yang calls out WWE & TKO over huge controversy
WWE and its parent company, TKO, have faced severe backlash over a massive wave of talent releases. Prominent stars such as Kairi Sane, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, and the Motor City Machine Guns were recently let go by the sports entertainment juggernaut. The controversial business decision drew the ire of American businessman and political commentator Andrew Yang, who took to X to voice his frustrations. Yang criticized the company for losing sight of professional wrestling’s core values, writing:
“It seems that TKO has really screwed up WWE/Wrestlemania with ads and celebs and getting away from the heart of pro wrestling – and talented performers are paying the price”.
This serious criticism surprisingly sparked a hilarious exchange between a legendary comedian and Tony Khan. Actor Kevin Nealon responded to Yang’s post with graphics jokingly announcing that his Saturday Night Live character, Franz, and Danny DeVito’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia character, The Trashman, had signed with AEW. Nealon then formally challenged DeVito to a match in either WWE or AEW. Tony Khan quickly noticed the exchange and played along, asking the 72-year-old Nealon whether he and DeVito still had their old costumes. After Nealon confirmed they did, Khan enthusiastically replied, “Then you guys are in.”
#1. CMLL star Persephone disgusted following shocking loss on AEW Collision
CMLL Women’s World Champion Persephone was left absolutely furious after this week’s AEW Collision: Playoff Palooza special. Persephone stepped in to team with Alex Windsor of the Brawling Birds, who was seeking retribution while Jamie Hayter remains un-cleared, to face the Triangle of Madness duo, Thekla and Skye Blue. The fast-paced bout saw Persephone deliver explosive offense, including a top-rope dropkick and a German suplex late in the match. However, as she prepared to execute a crucifix powerbomb on Blue, Julia Hart interfered, spraying black mist directly into Persephone’s eyes.
Blinded by the mist and left helpless, the CMLL Champion fell victim to the Code Blue, allowing the tag champs to secure the victory. In the aftermath of the tainted match, a visibly disgusted Persephone took to social media to voice her frustrations. Sharing a backstage photograph of herself covered in black mist, she demanded compensation for her ruined ring attire.
“Disgusted. Tell the Triangle they owe me gear,” she wrote.
You can check her story post here.
It remains to be seen if Persephone will return to AEW programming in the future and get revenge on the Triangle of Madness.
