Akron RubberDucks to play as Cheese Salads – SportsLogos.Net News

The Akron RubberDucks, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians in the Eastern League, will continue their tradition of honoring obscure local food specialties when they play one game as the Cheese Salads as part of their “Only in Akron” series. The team has previously played as the White French (a salad dressing), Fried Chicken and Hot Rice, Sauerkraut Balls, and Jojos (potato wedges).

Per the team, the cheese salad is unique to Akron, and includes lettuce, a thick slice of tomato, radishes, black olives, and anything else you might put on a salad, all topped with a pile of shredded mozzarella. The Cheese Salads logo features the regional delicacy in an anthropomorphic parquet-style woven wooden bowl atop a red and white checked vinyl table cloth.

“The cheese salad is truly an Akron creation,” RubberDucks President and General Manager Jim Pfander said. “Just as the mountain of cheese hides the other parts of the salad to create a surprise in every bite, there is a unique piece of history hidden around every turn in the city of Akron.”

The Cheese Salads will take to the field July 11 for a 7:05 game against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
