Amid speak of Indy 500 return, Katherine Legge’s NASCAR achievement attracts reward from Chase Briscoe and Conor Daly

Katherine Legge first raced an IndyCar over a decade ago, with the most recent race in 2024. The 45-year-old was hailed by Conor Daly and Chase Briscoe for her NASCAR performance amid the talks of a possible return for Legge to the Indy 500.

Legge made her Indy 500 debut in 2012 and also raced the event in 2013. After a decade away from the American open-wheel racing series, she returned for the Indy 500 in 2023 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, with her most recent attempt coming in 2024.

Katherine Legge wanted to race the 2025 Indy 500, but failed to secure a seat and instead put the funds from her sponsorship towards NASCAR. She made her NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2025 and participated in 7 races, with her best result coming at the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, as she finished P17.

Amid the talks of a return to Indy 500 for the 110th running of the greatest spectacle in racing for Legge, Conor Daly came out on the Speed Street podcast and hailed the 45-year-old and revealed his conversation with Chase Briscoe regarding Katherine Legge’s Brickyard 400 performance.

“I think she (Legge) deserves another shot for sure at the 500. She’s done some great stuff in that Cup car. Honestly, she got way too much flak for some stuff in Cup. And then she went out to the brickyard. I think she drove an incredible race there. We talked about that a little bit on the show,” said Conor Daly (21:43 onwards)

“She drove an awesome race there. So a lot of drivers had respect for her there, especially Chase Briscoe. I saw Chase Briscoe at the Colts game yesterday, and we chatted briefly about Katherine. And he’s like, man, she did really well at the brickyard. So got to respect that,” added Daly.

Katherine Legge reveals her ambition to attempt the double at Phoenix

Katherine Legge recently came out and spoke with Racer, detailing her racing plans for 2026. The 45-year-old reflected on her previous Indy 500 performance and suggested that she’d like another shot at the greatest spectacle in racing. However, she also revealed her desire to attempt the double at Phoenix Raceway in 2026 as she said,

“As long as you’re in with a shot and you feel like you’ve still got it, and I feel like I’ve still got it, I want to race again at Indy. And I’d love to do Phoenix as well and do the Cup weekend with IndyCar and maybe be the only driver who goes there to do both.”

IndyCar and NASCAR Cup Series races will take place on the same weekend at Phoenix in an attempt to help both series grow.
