Dallas Mavericks team governor Patrick Dumont felt the Mavs fans’ anger for trading Luka Doncic in February in full blast. Following a disappointing start that included an opening night 125-92 beatdown to the San Antonio Spurs in late October, Mavs supporters are even more disgruntled. Nicolas Dickason, according to a team insider, reportedly flipped Dumont in the loss to the Spurs.
On Monday, Dumont sat courtside with the fan, who came to apologize upon his father’s prodding. Unfortunately, the fan wore Doncic’s LA Lakers jersey during his conversation with the millionaire.
The fan explained, via Ron Harrod Jr., why he wore an opponent’s gear during his interaction with Patrick Dumont:

“I was pretty angered by the trade, so I bought the Lakers jersey as a kind of show my opinion on the trade.”
The “fire Nico” chants, which peaked the following months after he traded Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers, are back to almost full force. Dallas’ struggles and another injury to Anthony Davis have only re-ignited their frustrations at Harrison and Dumont.
Coincidentally, reports have surfaced that the trust between Dumont and Harrison has eroded since the Doncic trade. The team’s general manager could be fired as a matter of “when,” not if.
Fans roared “Fire Nico” chants with Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont sitting courtside on Monday
The reeling Dallas Mavericks have won just once in their past six games. In their lone victory during that stretch, they needed a big game from backup forward Naji Marshall to eke past the Washington Wizards on Saturday.
Two nights later, Patrick Dumont watched from his VIP suite as the Mavs prepared to host the Milwaukee Bucks. Late in the fourth quarter, while P.J. Washington shot free throws, chants of “Fire Nico” reverberated inside the home team’s arena.
Instead of cheering for Washington to make crucial free throws, many Mavericks fans turned on their team. The veteran forward inched his team to within 116-114 after draining the first attempt. After muffing the second one, the chants against Harrison only grew louder.
Washington eventually missed another free throw as the Mavericks again limped to another loss. The defeat dropped the Mavs’ record to 3-8, the worst in the Western Conference.
Patrick Dumont heard again what his the fans felt about where the franchise is headed after swapping Doncic for Anthony Davis.
