Arthur Fils vs Rafael Jodar preview

18th seed Arthur Fils will take on Rafael Jodar in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open 2026.
Fils fought past Zachary Svajda in three sets, and then beat Mariano Navone 6-3, 6-2 in the third round. He faced former top 10 player Cameron Norrie in the fourth round. Fils broke the Brit’s serve twice to capture the opening set without breaking a sweat. The second set went down to a tie-break, in which Fils saved two set points to score a 6-2, 7-6 (8) win.
Jodar staged a comeback to beat Corentin Moutet in the second round. He scored a 6-4, 6-3 win over 11th seed Lorenzo Musetti to book his spot in the fourth round, where eighth seed Jiri Lehecka awaited him.
Both players match each other shot for shot for most of the opening set. Jodar upped the ante towards the end, sweeping the last three games of the set to put himself in the driver’s seat.
A double break advantage in the second set put Jodar in a commanding position. However, he got broken while serving for the match at 5-2. Nevertheless, he broke back immediately in the next game to tally a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Arthur Fils vs Rafael Jodar prediction

Both players have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open for the first time. Jodar became the third teenager, after Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, to reach three consecutive Masters 1000 quarterfinals. Fils has progressed to the seventh Masters 1000 quarterfinal of his career, and his fourth of the season. He made the semifinals in Madrid and Miami earlier in the season.
Both were pushed to three sets in their opening-round matches in Canada, and won their next two matches in straight sets. Fils hasn’t dropped his serve in his last two wins. He has a 26-9 record for the season, with a 16-6 record on hardcourts. Jodar has posted a 33-12 record this year, and has gone 12-7 on hardcourts.
Fils beat Jodar en route to the Barcelona title earlier this year, and the Spaniard returned the favor a couple of weeks ago in Washington. The latter created 10 break point chances, and converted three of those to win the match. However, Fils has served quite well in his last two matches, which could give him the upper hand this time.
Fils will definitely have a new game plan in place after losing to Jodar. The Frenchman has previously made a couple of semifinals at this stage, unlike Jodar. Nerves won’t be a big factor for Fils in this match. While the two in-form youngsters could push each other to the limit, Fils will be expected to have the last laugh on this occasion.
Pick: Arthur Fils to win in three sets.
