Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City star Josko Gvardiol. They could make a move for him amid the Cityzens’ ongoing battle against the Premier League.
Earlier this week, the Premier League released a statement, claiming that it has found Manchester City guilty of 115 charges of financial breaches. They claim that these alleged breaches took place between 2009 and 2018. Manchester City have appealed the decision, but if they are eventually found guilty, they could face heavy sanctions.

Hence, many big clubs are monitoring the situations of their players, who could leave soon. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are among those clubs and are interested in Gvardiol. He can play both as a centre-back or a left-back, making him an attractive target for the Spanish giants.
The Blaugrana were reportedly interested in signing the Croat last year as well. However, Manchester City rejected an approach, and Gvardiol signed a new contract this summer, which will expire in 2031. His salary was also increased, which could prove to be a hindrance for Barcelona.
Gvardiol came through Dinamo Zagreb’s academy and joined RB Leipzig in 2021. He made 87 appearances for them before joining the Cityzens, for whom he’s recorded 14 goals and 12 assists in 129 games across competitions.
Barcelona star Rodri opened up on reports about Manchester City’s guilty verdict
Rodri, who joined Barcelona from Manchester City in the summer, spoke about reports of the guilty verdict against his former club. His comments came before the Premier League’s official statement, and he expressed confidence in City’s innocence. He said (h/t ESPN):
“From the club, they always told us to be calm, that we’d be acquitted, that we hadn’t done anything, and the club was found not guilty … Let’s hope justice can be done. But I believe in the innocence of the club. I know the club well. We were told at the time to be calm, and that everything had been done properly.”
He further spoke about the hard work of himself, his teammates, Pep Guardiola, and the entire staff. He said that “they can’t take that away” from them. He added:
“They [City hierarchy] always expressed confidence that they never did anything wrong, and we believed in that. I’ve been there, I know how they work, so that’s what I can tell you.”
Rodri joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2019. He made 298 appearances for them, recording 28 goals and 32 assists, and winning numerous trophies.
