Black Panther: Marvel to reportedly usher in a brand new Black Panther in Avengers: Secret Wars

Marvel fans are buzzing over rumors that a new Black Panther will join the fight in Avengers: Secret Wars. While Letitia Wright’s Shuri took over the mantle in 2022, recent reports suggest Marvel Studios may finally be ready to bring back a version of T’Challa.

These rumors have gained massive traction following a Wakanda-themed trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, reportedly released on January 13, 2026, that teased significant changes for the nation’s protector.

Scheduled for release on December 17, 2027, Avengers: Secret Wars is the grand finale of the Multiverse Saga. The film is expected to follow the total collapse of different realities, forcing heroes from across the multiverse to team up against a common enemy.

Is a new Black Panther coming? Avengers: Secret Wars rumors hint at a multiverse hero

With the multiverse in play, insiders suggest we could see a variant of T’Challa from another world or even a time-jump featuring an adult version of his son, Toussaint in Avengers: Secret Wars. This would allow Marvel to honor the legacy of the late Chadwick Boseman while ensuring that the Black Panther remains a central figure in the Avengers lineup for years to come.

In addition to the buzz surrounding Damson Idris and Aaron Pierre, several sources suggest that Marvel Studios has been quietly narrowing its search for the next actor to take up the mantle.

While Shuri (played by Letitia Wright) remains the primary Black Panther for now and in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, the introduction of a new version of the character is rumored to be the “midway point” of a larger plan to restore the title to a male lead following the events of Avengers: Secret Wars.

Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled to be released in theaters on December 17, 2027, serves as the direct sequel to Avengers: Doomsday and is expected to bring together heroes from every corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to save reality from total destruction.

Anthony and Joe Russo, the duo famous for directing Avengers: Endgame, are directing this upcoming finale. They are working with screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron to wrap up the complex multiverse plot.

Robert Downey Jr. makes a historic return to the franchise, but this time as the primary villain, the brilliant and menacing Doctor Doom. He is joined by Tom Holland, who continues his journey as Spider-Man, and Anthony Mackie, who leads the team as the new Captain America.

The film also includes powerful magical and cosmic heroes, with Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role as Doctor Strange and Simu Liu returning as the master of martial arts, Shang-Chi. It will also feature the Fantastic Four team, with Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.

The story is inspired by the famous Secret Wars comic books. It deals with incursions, which happen when different universes collide. The surviving heroes are expected to end up on a patchwork planet called Battleworld, where they must make a final stand to reboot the universe and create a new future for the MCU.

Avengers: Secret Wars is currently scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.
