Blockbuster replace on AJ Styles’ AEW standing after WWE retirement at Royal Rumble 2026

A major report has just come in regarding AJ Styles being linked to a move to AEW following his WWE retirement at the Royal Rumble last weekend. It seems that the promotion has shown interest in bringing him in.

The Phenomenal One put his career on the line at the PLE during his match against Gunther. Unfortunately, he lost via submission as he too fell to the Ring General’s Sleeper Hold. This gives a bigger reason to call him a Career Killer as he has now retired three major wrestling icons in the past year.

Fightful Select has just reported that on the AEW side of things, AJ Styles has been talked about internally, but no one has any information yet about his status moving forward. It was then mentioned that the promotion may approach him should he become available.

Several AEW stars have been throwing out AJ Styles-related hints

Following the former WWE Champion’s abrupt retirement from the promotion, several AEW names have taken to social media to subtly hint at his potential arrival to the Tony Khan-led company.

The likes of Will Ospreay and Mercedes Moné immediately posted following the end of the match. Ospreay was paying respects to his idol, while Mercedes seemed to be hinting at being in the know about some backstage rumors. She hoped these would come true.

Anthony Bowens was another star who teased Styles becoming All-Elite as he suddenly posted the lyrics to his WWE theme song on X/Twitter. In the end, these may only fuel speculation, but it remains to be seen whether there is any chance of this move taking place.

It is no secret that AEW has always been interested in AJ Styles, and it is almost a guarantee at this point that they’ll make a major move should he become available and become a free agent.
