Both Injured, I’m Done With This Team

Injuries to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves have become major concerns for the LA Lakers. Doncic played roughly three minutes in the fourth quarter on Thursday against the the Houston Rockets while Reaves sat out the second half. The Slovenian is dealing with a lower leg contusion, while Reaves tried to play through left calf soreness.

A clip of Doncic limping went viral, prompting fans to react:

“They let Luka (Doncic) and Reaves play with calf problems, and both injured, yeah, I’m done with this team.”

@LukaUpdates They let luka and reaves play with calf problems and both injured yeah im done with this team

One fan said:

@LukaUpdates He wasn’t moving right the entire game. How many times does Luka only score single digits in the first quarter. I know @NBA wants everyone to play on Christmas for ratings but they should have sat him after the first quarter he clearly wasn’t close to 100%

Another fan added:

@LukaUpdates Austin down, Luka looks like he is too. This is so sad. Who gave the green light for them to play 🥺🥺🥺

One more fan continued:

@LukaUpdates They shouldn’t rushed Luka like that ….

Another fan commented:

@LukaUpdates The medical staff and the Laker staff should be fired for allowing Luka Rui and AR come back early when they are still hurt!!

Luka Doncic played 20 minutes in LA’s 103-88 loss to the LA Clippers on Saturday. He sat out Tuesday’s game in Phoenix, where the Lakers lost 132-108. The NBA’s leading scorer was upgraded to available hours before the team hosted the Houston Rockets.

Austin Reaves recently missed three games due to left calf soreness. He returned for the game against the Suns but came off the bench in limited minutes. Reaves was questionable before the Rockets game before getting the green light to play.

The injuries to Doncic and Reaves could be brutal to a team that is just 4-6 in December. If both are out for long, the Lakers will likely struggle without two of their top scorers and playmakers.

JJ Redick more worried about Lakers’ attitude and execution than injuries to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves

After the game, LA Lakers coach JJ Redick told reporters that he didn’t have more information about the injuries to Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic. While their status is a concern, Redick was more worried about his team’s attitude and execution.

Redick took a shot at his team in the Lakers’ 132-108 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. Doncic did not play that game, while Reaves contributed 17 points, two rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes. Redick called out his team for not giving the effort and making “tough choices” to win.

JJ Redick underlined the same point in the loss to the Rockets. Redick ripped his team for not caring enough and for failing “to be a professional.”

Redick vowed to address the issue by having the Lakers go through an “uncomfortable” practice on Saturday. With Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves injured, maybe Redick will spare them both from his plan.
