A former WWE Champion came out of retirement and wrestled his first match after nearly two years as part of the Death Riders.
The aforementioned star is the multi-time WWE Champion, Bryan Danielson. The main event of the September 30 episode of Dynamite saw a huge ten-man tag team match. It pitted the Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia, Wheeler Yuta, and Gabe Kidd), accompanied by Marina Shafir, against the Don Callis Family (Mark Davis, Lance Archer, Josh Alexander, Jake Doyle) and Wardlow. The Death Riders hurdled around the empty chair in tribute to the late PAC, who unexpectedly passed away last Sunday, before going into war with their opponents.
However, in a shocking development, Jon Moxley chose not to join his cohorts in the ring, but instead sat at the commentary desk. When asked if it became a 4-on-5 situation for the Death Riders, Moxley said they would have a fifth member, and Bryan Danielson came out to a huge ovation. He came out leading a big YES chant, and the match began with chaos all over the ringside area.
This marked Bryan Danielson’s first match since the AEW WrestleDream 2024 PPV. Interestingly, he was amid a feud with Jon Moxley and the Death Riders heading into the event. At WrestleDream, the former WWE superstar lost the AEW World Championship to Moxley, marking the end of his full-time career as a wrestler. While this was his televised in-ring return, Danielson had wrestled a dark match against Max Caster on Collision last year.
Former WWE star Bryan Danielson won his AEW in-ring return match
The aforementioned 10-man tag team match on AEW Dynamite was fast-paced and chaotic, with bodies everywhere. As for Bryan Danielson, he showed no signs of ring rust and delivered a good performance as part of the Death Riders.
The bout ended when Daniel Garcia, Gabe Kidd, and Claudio Castagnoli hit a trio combination on Jake Doyle, with Garcia pinning him for the win. The Death Riders, including Danielson, shared a hurdle in the ring and dedicated their victory to PAC, which was an emotional sight to witness.
