The Cleveland Browns will put on their white helmets with their 1946 throwback uniforms for the third and closing time this season on Thursday evening towards the New York Jets (8:15 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime).

The Browns initially wore strong white helmets from their inception in 1946 till they added a plain orange choice in 1950 to adjust to NFL guidelines requiring groups to put on helmets that contrasted with the white soccer used throughout evening video games.

Cleveland rotated between the 2 helmets for yet another season earlier than transferring to orange lids on a full-time foundation in 1952, albeit with a white stripe down the middle. They then added grey facemasks in 1954 and brown jerseys numbers on the perimeters in 1957.

The Browns initially paired the 1957 helmet design with the 1946 throwback uniforms as a part of their seventy fifth anniversary celebration in 2021, swapping out the decals and facemasks on their standard orange helmets to stick to the NFL’s one-helmet rule.

The league in the end scrapped that rule final season, which allowed Cleveland to introduce a new white helmet – full with the Browns’ present striping sample down the middle and a brown facemask – this fall.

As talked about, the white helmets have already been paired with the throwback uniforms twice this season, together with a 26-22 loss on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 18 and a 19-17 house win over the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 15.

The Jets, in the meantime, will put on all-green for the second consecutive weekend. They’re 1-0 within the mixture this season after blowing a 27-7 result in the Washington Commanders on Christmas Eve earlier than kicking the game-winning discipline aim with seconds left.
