Cody Rhodes reacts to being labeled as WWE’s Golden Boy

Cody Rhodes shared his thoughts on being labeled as WWE’s Golden Boy. The veteran defeated Drew McIntyre this past Friday night on SmackDown to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.

Speaking on Complex Graps, Rhodes reacted to the “Golden Boy” label and boasted about outperforming everyone else on the roster. Sami Zayn referred to Rhodes as the company’s golden boy on SmackDown for being given another title shot against Drew McIntyre.

“I heard someone say ‘Golden Boy,’ and I loved it. I don’t know if I was supposed to love it, especially with how they were saying it. But I thought, Okay, maybe I will lean into that. And maybe that is the identity of this reign, maybe I will lean into that because I’m certainly out there in terms of output. Hopefully, this is the one time I’ll say this while talking to you guys because otherwise it becomes self-obsessed. But, I’m outrunning everyone on the treadmill right now, even the guy who I consider my largest competition. If that is going to be the case, then I will take this Golden Boy moniker,” said Rhodes.

Cody Rhodes will be defending the title against Men’s Elimination Chamber winner Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42 next month.

Former WWE star claims Cody Rhodes has to turn heel after winning title

Wrestling veteran Jonathan Coachman recently suggested that Cody Rhodes had to turn heel following the negative reaction from fans about his victory over Drew McIntyre on WWE SmackDown.

Speaking on Behind the Turnbuckle Studios’ The Coach and Bro Show, Coachman noted that this would be the fourth year in a row that Rhodes was in the main event of WrestleMania, and it was time for a change.

“If you don’t, it is going to be four straight years of the babyface of the year, the QB, all of that,” said Jonathan Coachman.

Eric Bischoff looks forward to a heel turn from Cody Rhodes “I really like a slow build. I want somebody to get me really sucked into the story before that happens. But I think it’s time for Cody”

It will be interesting to see if Randy Orton can dethrone Cody Rhodes at WWE WrestleMania 42.
