Darby Allin has achieved another major professional milestone. This happened when he won the World Title.
Darby Allin is one of the most beloved stars on the AEW roster. He is even considered one of the pillars of the Jacksonville-based promotion. Over the years, Darby has featured prominently on TV and has been involved in major storylines. He has even defeated some of the biggest stars in the company. Darby is a former TNT Champion, and he also enjoyed a good run with Sting. Together with Sting, Darby won the AEW World Tag Team Championship. However, Darby hadn’t been involved in the main event scene. However, that all changed at Dynamite Spring BreakThru.
After earning a title shot at Dynasty 2026, Darby defeated MJF in a squash match to become the new AEW World Champion. By winning the World Title, Darby became the first Triple Crown winner in AEW history. Therefore, we at Sportskeeda Wrestling extend our sincerest congratulations to the new World Champion.
Dave Meltzer is not happy with Darby Allin becoming the AEW World Champion
Darby Allin caught everyone’s attention due to his daredevil style of wrestling during his matches. He is willing to go the extra mile to make his matches more exciting. Despite his rising popularity in Tony Khan’s promotion, Allin was never seen as a World Champion because of his style of wrestling. Therefore, fans were surprised when Darby defeated MJF to win the World Title at Dynamite Spring BreakThru.
But Dave Meltzer was not happy with the decision. He said that Darby is not the right guy to be the World Champion. He further noted that the World Champion should be one of the top three stars in the company, which Darby is not, according to the veteran journalist.
“When you say [Darby’s] the right guy, I completely disagree. As far as doing a title change on a Wednesday TV, that’s fine. To me the World Champion should be the top guy generally but certainly top 3 or 4 in your company… and he’s not,” said Meltzer.
It remains to be seen who will be next in line to challenge Darby for the AEW World Championship.
