Congratulations To AEW Star Hechicero

AEW star Hechicero has been one of the best technical wrestlers in the Jacksonville-based promotion. Earlier this year, he signed a dual deal and is currently under contract with CMLL and AEW. He is part of the Don Callis Family and occasionally delivers top-notch matches against top babyfaces. Along with his successful run in All Elite Wrestling, he is the current CMLL World Heavyweight Champion.

Recently, the masked star participated in CMLL’s huge tournament, the Grand Prix. In the tournament, Team Mexico and Team World collided. Team Mexico included Xelhua, Volador Jr., Titán, Último Guerrero, Máscara Dorada, Hechicero, Templario, Ángel de Oro, Bárbaro Cavernario, Soberano Jr. & Místico, while Team World had PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, Orange Cassidy, Bandido, Roderick Strong, DOUKI, Yujiro Takahashi, Austin Aries, Blake Christian, Leon Cage & Rohan Raja.

AEW stars Hechicero and Claudio Castagnoli fought in the final phase of the contest. After an exciting back-and-forth, the reigning CMLL World Heavyweight Champion won the match and the Grand Prix title of this year.

Reason why CMLL President Salvador Lutteroth III may have crowned AEW’s Claudio Castagnoli?

In late 2025, Claudio Castagnoli became the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. He dropped the title to Hechicero a few months later.

While speaking on Keepin’ It 100 OFFICIAL, veteran Hugo Savinovich revealed why CMLL President Salvador Lutteroth III put the CMLL World Championship on the Death Riders member. He claimed that the CMLL President likes Claudio Castagnoli’s strong-style wrestling.

“I’ll tell you why. Because Lutteroth, the guy that is the boss there, he identifies himself with that style, like New Japan, and Claudio kind of strong style. And CMLL, they resent a lot of the American-style wrestling. They like over 90 years of history, and they just don’t approve of like the modern wrestling…And they feel Claudio, he’s got what it takes, and I think they’re wrong because even with El Grande Americano, you know that he’s getting over,” he said.

It will be interesting to see whether Hechicero and Claudio Castagnoli collide once again in CMLL. The two major heavyweights have had a great rivalry so far.
