On Friday, April 3, the defending NASCAR Truck Series champion Corey Heim etched his name into the sport’s history books at Rockingham Speedway by breaking a long-standing Truck Series record previously held by two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch. Heim also ended up taking the checkered flag at the 0.94-mile-long track.
Heim, who is not full-time in 2026, has now led at least one lap in 29 straight Truck Series races, surpassing NASCAR great Busch’s longest streak to set a new all-time record in the series.
Thanks for the submission!
The significance of Heim’s record lies not just in the number, but in what it represents. Leading a lap every weekend requires a combination of speed, strategy, and track position, and doing it in 29 continuous races highlights an extraordinary level of performance from the Marietta, Georgia, native.
Last year, the 23-year-old also achieved a feat, leading a record 1,627 laps to become the first driver in the history of NASCAR’s three national series to lead at least one lap in every single race of a season.
Since last year, Corey Heim has been competitive across different tracks, conditions, and race situations. Whether it’s short tracks, road courses, intermediates, or superspeedways, he has consistently put himself at the front of the field.
Breaking a record held by veteran Kyle Busch adds even more weight to the feat. Busch is widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR, and he is the most winning driver in the Truck Series, holding 68 victories.
Corey Heim seals the season’s second win in an intense last-lap thriller
Driving the #5 Toyota for Tricon Garage on a part-time basis, Corey Heim won Friday’s Rockingham race in an intense last-lap thriller against his teammate Kaden Hoceycutt.
Heim started on pole and dominated the race, leading a race-high 178 of the 200 laps, winning both the first two stages en route to his second win of the season. In the closing laps, he held off his hard-charging teammate, Kaden Honeycutt, to cross the finish line by a margin of 0.090 seconds.
It was Heim’s second straight race in the Triple Truck Challenge and earned him a $100,000 bonus, and now he will race for $500,000 at Bristol Motor Speedway on April 10.
As a part-time driver, he has won two races and currently leads the NASCAR Truck Series points table and is trying with Kaden Honeycutt with 190 points.
