“Courtroom makes me nervous” – Michael Jordan Gets Real on ‘Aggressive’ NASCAR Antitrust Lawsuit

Michael Jordan fueled major attention on NASCAR when he stood against the competition authorities in court with an antitrust lawsuit in October 2024. The Chicago Bulls legend is the co-owner of 23XI Racing, one of the two teams behind the lawsuit.

Jordan’s team settled the lawsuit with NASCAR on Dec. 11, 2025. On Friday, the Bulls legend sat down with Gayle King from CBS Mornings for an interview on the subject.

“I’ve been a fan. It’s not like I just woke up and said, ‘You know what? I’m going to go and I’m going to attack NASCAR.’ No, I’ve been involved in NASCAR. I’ve been a supporter for NASCAR for a long period of time,” Jordan said. “I was aggressively going to win. You know… I became a competitor all over again.”

The core issue behind the lawsuit was whether NASCAR engaged in anti-competitive conduct that endangered stock car racing teams that took part in the tournament.

The teams that participate in the competition are independent contractors that function under a time-limited charter in agreement with NASCAR. However, when the last charter expired in 2024, the authorities presented the team owners with a final offer. All teams agreed to the charter excpet 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports.

Michael Jordan becomes a Daytona 500 winner

Michael Jordan poured his competitive soul into multiple endeavours after her retired from basketball. However, nothing suited him better than motorsport racing. The six-time NBA champion got himself a racing team and entered the world of NASCAR in 2020.

On Feb. 15, 23 XI Racing’s driver, Tyler Reddick, won the Daytona 500 at the Daytona International Speedway. Reedick’s arrival past the chequered flag sent Jordan into a frenzy, who bear-hugged the driver as the race ended.

“It feels like I won a championship, but until I get my ring, I won’t even know,” Jordan said about the win. I can’t even believe it. It was so gratifying. You never know how these races are going to end. You just try to survive. We hung in there all day. Great strategy by the team, and we gave ourselves a chance at the end. Look, I’m ecstatic”

Michael Jordan received the ring for the race on his 60th birthday on Feb. 17. The Bulls legend continues to fuel his intense competitiveness as a team owner on the grid.
