On Friday, January 16, the South Korean reality competition series, Culinary Class Wars, was announced for a season 3 renewal. The news was reported by both the South Korean media outlet, Korean JoongAng Daily, and the official social media platforms of Netflix Korea. However, unlike its previous seasons, the show is expected to bring a new twist to its format.
The first two seasons followed the concept of Black Spoon chefs against White Spoon chefs, where the Black Spoon chefs were the local and amateur cooks, while White Spoon chefs stood as renowned celebrity cooks. Around 100 contestants were gathered for the competition, with a ratio of 80 Black Spoon chefs and 20 White Spoon chefs.
The Black Spoon chefs undergo an elimination round, leaving 20 of them to compete against the White Spoon chefs. Through further competition, one winner, either a Black Spoon or White Spoon chef, is chosen by the judges, who will be taking home a cash prize of 300 million won. However, this format might be partially erased in the upcoming season of Culinary Class Wars.
While the previous seasons focused on the individual chefs, the third season will run on a team-based format, where four people will form one team. The four members will serve as representatives for one restaurant, and the reality competition series will feature battles and challenges against each of these teams. On January 16, the applications were released for four team members from a restaurant to participate in the competition series.
Interested applicants can visit the application form posted by Netflix Korea on their social media platforms, such as Instagram, X, and more. The application eligibility is limited to chefs who work under the same restaurant, and teams formed across other workplaces will not be accepted by Netflix. However, restaurant will branches can form teams from their different franchises, as long as they work under the same brand.
