Deranged Leftist Colombian President Gustavo Petro Claims ‘Cocaine Is No Worse Than Whiskey’ | The Gateway Pundit

Far-leftist Gustavo Petro is now defending Cocaine.

Colombia’s Gustavo Petro has the ‘perfect’ resumé for a Latin American far-leftist leader. Petro is a former member of the M-19, a Marxist guerrilla group in Colombia, known for its militant actions, including the killing of officials, kidnappings, attacks on government buildings, and other violent activities.

The M-19 was involved in the bloody 1985 siege of Colombia’s Palace of Justice, which resulted in the deaths of 94 people, including nearly half of the country’s Supreme Court justices.

After he joined the M-19 at the age of 17, Petro was reportedly primarily involved in stockpiling stolen weapons.

While the Colombian leader has left the armed revolutionary struggle for a political career, he still operates like the far-left Marxist that he is.

Recently he has been in US headlines for his pitiful attempt at tackling President Donald J. Trump’s threat of tariffs unless Colombia takes their illegal migrants back when deported.

Petro has said that ‘Colombia is the heart of the world’ and, for a moment, there, vowed to reciprocate and impose 50% tariffs on the United States in retaliation for Trump’s sanctions.

But right after many Colombian civil society organizations started to organize protests demanding Petro’s impeachment, it was reported that he gave up on trying to resist the demands and accepted the Trump administration’s terms regarding the deportations of illegal migrants.

Since then, Petro continues to behave like a mini-Fidel Castro, railing against Trump, calling him a ‘fascist’, comparing him to Hitler, and accusing him of representing ‘white slavery’.

Now he is back with some more pure nonsense: Cocaine, Petro states, ‘is no worse than whiskey’ and is only illegal because it comes from Latin America.

The Colombian President said that during a live TV broadcast of a government meeting.

Colombia, as we all know, is the world’s biggest cocaine producer and exporter, with the deadly ‘product’ being trafficked mainly to the United States and Europe.

CBSNews reported:

“During a six-hour ministerial meeting — broadcast live for the first time ever — the leftist president said ‘cocaine is illegal because it is made in Latin America, not because it is worse than whiskey’.

‘Scientists have analyzed this. Cocaine is no worse than whiskey’, he added, suggesting that the global cocaine industry could be ‘easily dismantled’ if the drug were legalized worldwide.

‘If you want peace, you have to dismantle the business (of drug trafficking)’, he said. ‘It could easily be dismantled if they legalize cocaine in the world. It would be sold like wine’.”

Petro argued that fentanyl ‘is killing Americans and it is not made in Colombia.’

“’Fentanyl was created as a pharmacy drug by North American multinationals’ and those who consumed it ‘became addicted’, he added.

[…] Cocaine production in Colombia reached a record-high in 2023, jumping 53 percent to 2,600 tons, according to the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime.”
