An illustration by pro-Hamas supporters at Columbia College turned violent on Tuesday after Columbia College licensed town to deploy officers onto the campus amid escalating tensions.
Because the scenario intensified, the college administration issued a “shelter in place” directive to college students, citing “heightened activity on the Morningside campus.” The alert suggested college students to stay indoors for his or her security, warning that failure to conform might result in disciplinary actions.
The NYPD issued a directive to all non-essential personnel, together with college students not concerned within the protests, to vacate the campus space. “The operation at Columbia University has commenced,” introduced an NYPD spokesperson.
“All credentialed media members are to meet with DCPI personnel at West 114th Street and Broadway. Anyone remaining in the area without authorization will be escorted from the premises.”
