Aniimo, the latest free-to-play RPG, was released on September 16, 2026, and has already generated significant interest among players. However, one question that has surrounded the game since before its release is whether it uses AI.
The discussion began months earlier when players noticed advertisements for Pawprint Studio’s title featuring footage that did not match the actual game. Players called out the developers on the issue, prompting the studio to apologise and remove the advertisements in question. However, regarding the game’s in-game assets, the developers have indicated that AI was not used in their creation.
In this detailed guide, we will shed more light on the use of AI in Pawprint Studio’s latest title.

Aniimo AI use explained

As mentioned earlier, questions surrounding AI in Aniimo began when advertisements featuring footage that did not match the game started circulating. The developers acknowledged the issue and took steps to address it. When it comes to the game’s actual assets, however, the developers have indicated that they were created without AI.
This is also reflected on the game’s Steam page, which does not currently include an AI disclosure. Additionally, the developers discussed the game’s creation process in a developer letter, stating:
“Piece by piece, it all took shape. And sometimes, the strangest feeling would creep in: it didn’t feel like we were designing these Aniimo anymore. It felt like we were discovering them.”
Aniimo is also preparing a post-launch update that will allow Pathfinders to interact directly with their companions. The interactive feature was revealed in a news post dated August 26, 2026, with the developers stating that they aim to make these interactions feel natural and immersive. The feature, which uses NVIDIA ACE, is planned for early 2027. Here is the official take on the feature:
“Our goal is to make these interactions feel natural and immersive, allowing you to communicate through voice commands and natural language. You’ll be able to chat with your Aniimo, teach them new skills, and send them out to gather resources using voice input. Each Aniimo will also respond with dynamic emotions based on player actions, creating a deeper sense of companionship with the creatures that live and adventure alongside you.”
Conclusively, there is no official indication that AI was used to create in-game assets. The studio addressed the advertising issue through an apology and the removal of the relevant ads. However, the upcoming NVIDIA ACE feature will use AI technology for voice-based interactions and dynamic responses after its planned launch in early 2027.
