A number of Liverpool players have appeared to support Mohamed Salah on his social media post, where he hit out at the club. The Reds suffered their 12th defeat in the Premier League this season as they lost 4-2 against Aston Villa on Friday, May 15.
It has been a forgettable season for Arne Slot’s side, who won the Premier League title convincingly last season. Despite an outlay of more than £400 million on new signings in the summer, they have come up with one of the worst title defences in the league’s history.
Thanks for the submission!
The Merseyside giants are set to finish the season trophyless and have lost 20 games across all competitions this season. Following Liverpool’s defeat against Aston Villa, Mohamed Salah launched a withering critique at the club and it was obvious that he targetted the manager Arne Slot.
Salah openly criticized the Reds’ style of play and insisted that he wants the club to play how they used to do under Jurgen Klopp. He wrote on X:
“I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that. Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good.”
He added:
“It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it. Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games. Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on. As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.”
A number of Liverpool players including the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Andy Robertson and Hugo Ekitike liked Salah’s post. Arne Slot is evidently a man under a lot of pressure due to Liverpool’s poor form and it seems that he could be losing the dressing room.
Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are both set to leave the Merseyside giants in the summer. The two players have been long-term servants of the club and have won everything during their time at Anfield.
Arne Slot opens up on Liverpool’s defeat against Aston Villa
Liverpool manager Arne Slot came up with a surprising remark following the Reds’ 4-2 defeat against Aston Villa. Unai Emery’s side guaranteed their place in the Champions League next season with the victory while the Reds will have to wait until the final day of the season to ensure their spot in the top five.
Arne Slot claimed that he was happy to see his side score two goals against Aston Villa at the Villa Park. However, he felt that his side conceded way too many goals. He said:
“We’ve definitely conceded far too many goals. We also haven’t scored enough goals, although two at Villa Park is not bad. If you told me we did that before the game, I would think we are not far from a good result.”
He added:
“When we are the better team, we struggle to find that goal, mainly because we are not able to create big enough chances when we are the better team. When we have a period of time when we are struggling or the other team are better than us, we tend to concede too easy.”
Liverpool are fifth in the table right now and will host Brentford on the final day of the season. Bournemouth still have the chance to finish ahead of the Reds if they can win their remaining two games and Arne Slot’s side fail to win against the Bees.
