Dplus sweeps Karmine Corp to win Esports World Cup League of Legends

Dplus swept Karmine Corp in the League of Legends grand final at the Esports World Cup on Sunday in Paris to claim the $600,000 first prize and 1,000 club points.

Geum-jae “Smash” Shin earned Most Valuable Player honors — and a $25,000 check — for leading Dplus to the championship. One day before his 20th birthday, the South Korea native piled up 22 kills and 18 assists versus just four deaths during the best-of-five match.

Dplus needed 31 minutes to capture Game 1, 34 to take Game 2 and just 27 to complete the sweep. Su “ShowMaker” Heo compiled a 13/3/16 K-D-A line to help Dplus.

France’s Caliste Henry-Hennebert paced Karmine Corp with a 7/9/5 line. Karmine earned $340,000 and 750 club points for its second-place finish.

In the third-place match, Gen.G defeated 2-1 in the best-of-three match to secure $220,000 and 500 club points. Gen.G won the final game in 30 minutes as South Korea’s Ki-in “Kiin” Kim and Geon-bu “Canyon” Kim each registered nine kills and nine assists versus two deaths.

T1 settled for $140,000 and 300 club points as the fourth-place finisher. South Korea’s Soo-hwan “Peyz” Kim paced T1 in the match with 13 kills and 15 assists vs. 14 deaths.

The Esports World Cup features competition in 25 titles and a $75 million prize pool. Other events this month include DOTA, PUBG, EA Sports FC, Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Rocket League, Counter-Strike 2 and Fortnite.
